Riemer Garners CACC’s Weekly Rookie Award with Championship at Peter King Memorial Tournament New Haven, Conn. - (4/4/2015) – Claiming his second individual championship at this past weekend’s Peter King Memorial Tournament, freshman
Sam Riemer (Canton, Mass.) was recently recognized as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week.
After offering the two best golfers on the first day of play at Dowling College’s Peter King Memorial Tournament, a blustery second afternoon toyed with tee shots and inflated scores to leave Chestnut Hill College five strokes behind Le Moyne College (612, +44). Following a personal best, tackling the Shoreham, New York, course in just 69 (-2) strokes on the first day, Riemer put a 78 (+7) on the scorecard in his second round to capture the individual championship with a two-day total of 147 strokes (69-78, +5).
Chestnut Hill College recorded its sixth top-three finish of the season with junior
Matthew Balcer (Bensalem, Pa.) joining Riemer atop the tournament leaderboard. Balcer paired his round-one 70 (-1) with a day-two 82 (+11) leaving him tied for fourth (152, +10). Unfortunately, Le Moyne College stole the team championship with three golfers among the top dozen finishers.
The Griffins also received qualifying scores from sophomore
Anthony Hoffman (Philadelphia, Pa.) whose round of 80 (+9) tying him for 26
th with a two-day total of 158 (+16) strokes, senior
Blaise Straka Jr. (Croydon, Pa.) and junior
Cody Bloom (San Diego, Calif.). Straka tied for 33
rd (78-82, 160, +18) and Bloom tied for 46
th (79-84, 163, +21).
The golf team tees off next on Tuesday, April 7, when they join Philadelphia University and other for a round at Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania’s ACE Club.
