Burns and Jaffé Appear On CACC Weekly Report for Goal against NYIT

New Haven, Conn. - (9/8/2015) – Freshman forward Jason Burns (Douglassville, Pa.) found the foot of senior midfielder Nicholas Jaffe (Sao Paulo, Brazil) for the Griffins' first tally of the 2015 season 73:14 into Chestnut Hill College’s season opener at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) on Thursday, September 3. Unfortunately, it was the only Griffin goal of the week as they eventually lost to NYIT by a 4-1 before falling to #7 Southern New Hampshire University 3-0 on Sunday, September 6. As a result, Burns was selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week award while Jaffé garnered a mention on the Honor Roll.

After spotting the NYIT a 2-0 lead in the opening half of Thursday's season opener, a third goal early in the second half put Chestnut Hill College in a bad spot, down 3-0. Following the break, the Griffins missed on two early opportunities due to a pair of offside offenses (47:52 & 52:01) and the Bears adjusted with a few substitutions before sophomore midfielder Krishen Patel (Buckinghamshire, England) put the finishing touches on the win by bookending a goal from Jaffé at 73:14, 3-1, with an assist to freshman forward Simon-Peter Omooba (London, England) at 68:02, 2-1, and a goal of his own at 73:30, 4-1.

Continuing a challenging early-season schedule, Chestnut Hill College hung with #7 Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) for nearly 70 minutes of Sunday evening’s contest. The Pennmen scored the contest’s first goal on a penalty kick at 21:28 before a 31-5 shooting advantage overwhelmed the Griffins in the 69th minute (68:38), when a header to the goal provided a 2-0 cushion that later increased to a three-goal edge on a headed corner kick less than four minutes later (72:18). Jaffé recorded two of the Griffins’ five shots.

The men’s soccer team returns home after the Labor Day holiday to host the University of the District of Columbia in a 4:00 p.m. home opener on Wednesday, September 9.
