Play At Bentley University Invitational Attracts CACC Weekly Awards for Trabosh and Biro

New Haven, Conn. - (9/8/2015) – Totaling 91 digs and earning all-tournament honors at last weekend’s Bentley University Invitational, junior libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) was selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Defensive Player of the Week. She was joined on the league’s weekly report by senior outside hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.), who recorded a team-high 41 points on 40 kills and a block assist.

Chestnut Hill College endured four grueling matches against some of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II top opponents at this past weekend’s Bentley University Invitational. The weekend began on Friday, September 4, with matches versus the University of Minnesota-Crookston and the University of New Haven and concluded with a pair of Saturday, games opposite LIU Post and the hosting Falcons.

Chestnut Hill College and the University of Minnesota-Crookston (UMC) were catching their collective breathe after a two-hour marathon on Friday, September 4. The Golden Eagles edged the Griffins out in the opening set, 28-26, only for Chestnut Hill College to return the favor in the second set, 27-25. The third (25-14) and fourth sets (25-17) were then split in the same order, leading to a deciding set that saw the Griffins surrender a late 10-9 advantage to the Golden Eagles, 3-2 (28-26, 25-27, 25-14, 17-25, 15-12). Trabosh hustled to 29 digs, leading three others who made it to double-digit digs, including junior Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) who paired her team-high 13 kills with 21 digs.

Refreshed from their morning match, Chestnut Hill College took the court opposite the University of New Haven in the afternoon. Again, the Griffins found themselves in tight competition as they narrowly lost the first set, 25-22, and the fourth set, 26-24, to the Chargers after controlling play in the second, 25-13, and third sets, 25-19. The deciding set was just as fierce, remaining tied as late as 11-11 before the Griffins lost their focus in a 15-11 defeat; 3-2 (25-22, 13-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-11). Biro was the Griffins’ top offensive performer with 17 kills on a .270 (17K-7E-37TA) hitting percentage and a block assist while Trabosh made 28 digs to lead three Griffins in double digit digs.

On Saturday, Chestnut Hill College had trouble keeping up with LIU Post for most of the early afternoon. The Griffins trailed the Pioneers in all but the second set where they succumbed to a late rally in a 25-23 win. McBride and Biro led the Griffins with ten points apiece, while Trabosh added two assists and 18 digs in the loss, 3-1 (25-12, 23-25, 25-15, 25-14).

As long as their first three matches were at the Bentley University Invitational, Chestnut Hill College’s fourth match against the hosting Falcons was short with the home team earning a 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-20) win over the Griffins in just over an hour (1:05). Junior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.) led the Griffin offense with 11 points on six kills, an ace, and three blocks while Trabosh totaled 16 digs and a couple of assists.

The Griffins face four new opponents in next weekend’s Wildcat Regional Invitational at Wilmington University where Chestnut Hill College is scheduled for respective 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. matches against Franklin Pierce University and American International University on Friday, September 11.
