Ferrell, Spinuzza Are Latest Griffins on CACC Weekly Report
New Haven, Conn. - (9/15/2015) – Staying hot, Chestnut Hill College scored two wins this week; the first a 4-2 triumph at The Lincoln University on Wednesday, September 9, and the second a 3-2 overtime victory at Concordia College (NY) in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season opener. In the process, freshman midfielder Brianna Ferrell (Newtown Square, Pa.) totaled three points and collected the league’s Rookie of the Week award with the overtime game-winner against the Clippers while senior midfielder Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) garnered an Honor Roll mention with two goals and an assist (5 points).
Chestnut Hill College (3-1, 1-0) made it back-to-back wins with Wednesday's 4-2 defeat of The Lincoln University. Just 24 seconds after an opening tally by the Lions (1-0 at 11:27), the Griffins responded with Spinuzza knotting the contest on the third assist in a young season from Ferrell, 1-1 at 11:51. In the second half, freshman midfielder Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) ensured victory with a pair of goals (47:09 and 72:51), bookending a Lion tally (64:11) before an own goal left the Griffins a two-goal win.
The Griffins continued their winning streak into conference play with a highly-competitive contest at Concordia College (NY) on Saturday, September 12. Freshman midfielder Maddi Paulson (Kalispell, Mont.) gave the Clippers a 2-1 advantage early in the second half, but the Griffins tied the contest in the 85th (84:50) minute, forcing overtime, where Ferrell scored the game-winner on a cross from senior defender Courtney Weidner (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the final minute of the overtime, 3-2 (99:15).
The women’s soccer team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, September 15, with a 3:00 p.m. contest at Goldey-Beacom College.
