Williams-Mulesa and Bellon Repeat On CACC Weekly Report
New Haven, Conn. - (9/28/2015) – Senior captain Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) highlighted an 2-0 week of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with her 100th career victory coming in a doubles triumph opposite Caldwell University. She was joined on this week’s CACC Honor Roll by freshman Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) who contributed to three points over the two league wins.
The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season opened on Tuesday, September 22, for the Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team, who traveled crosstown to Fossler's Cheltenham Tennis Center for an afternoon match with Holy Family University. Now under the direction of former Chestnut Hill College assistant coach, Andrew Silverman, the Tigers were only able to secure the top doubles match, leaving the Griffins to an 8-1 victory. Williams-Mulesa and sophomore Lara Scholtze (Bod Homburg, Germany) earned an 8-0 win at number two doubles and senior Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) and Bellon teaming for a win by the same final, 8-0, at number three doubles. Holy Family University (3-3, 1-2) closed the margin to 2-1 with an 8-4 win at number one doubles, but Williams-Mulesa and the rest of the Griffin lineup earned individual wins to improve their overall and league records.
They did it again the next day, Wednesday, September 23, in a 9-0 CACC victory over Caldwell University. Williams-Mulesa earned her 100th career win with an 8-0 triumph at number two doubles while the Griffins gave the Cougars little chance. Craskey and Bellon led off with an 8-0 win at number three doubles, only to be followed close behind by Williams-Mulesa and Scholtze, who earned the Griffins' second point and secured the milestone with an 8-0 win at number two doubles. They completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at number one doubles and extended to singles play where Williams-Mulesa (W, 6-1, 6-0 @ #3) and crew were a perfect six for six. Bellon won the first point of singles play at number six singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team returns to action next week on Wednesday, September 30, when they welcome Goldey-Beacom College to campus for a 4:00 p.m. CACC match.
