Double-Doubles Place Wildgoose And Parriski on CACC Weekly Report
New Haven, Conn. - (1/18/2016) – For the fourth time in her rookie campaign, freshman forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) has earned at least a share of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week title, as she earns Co-Rookie of the Week honors for her double-double effort in the Griffins’ 98-84 league win over Nyack College. Wildgoose was joined on the league’s weekly women’s basketball report by sophomore forward Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.), who earned Honor Roll recognition for the CACC Defensive Player of the Week award with her double-double performance.
Saying that Tuesday, January 12, night's CACC contest in Sorgenti Arena was a high-paced affair would be an understatement as Nyack College and Chestnut Hill College played at a dizzying pace that produced 47 turnovers, 68 free throws, and 94 rebounds in a 98-84 final that went the Griffins way. With plenty of stats to go around, five Griffins finished in double figures including a team-high 20 points from junior Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.), a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double from Parriski and a 19-point, 11 rebound double-double from Wildgoose.
The frenzy began as it ended, unpredictable, as one aggressive play led to another, propelling the meeting between Nyack College (5-10, 3-5) and Chestnut Hill College (6-9, 4-4) to a total of 182 points, the program's highest combined total points in a regulation contest. Searching for a lineup that could hold onto the ball, Coach West's Griffins wound up shooting 62.5% (20-of-32) to lead 48-32 at halftime. Wildgoose and junior forward Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) both scored 13 points in the half, the former hitting 6-of-7 (.857) from the floor, grabbing five rebounds, and providing an assist while the latter hit 3-of-3 from long range in addition to collecting six rebounds, and a helper.
As normal as the first half appeared, the second half moved twice as fast with each team breaking the 50-point plateau. Through the chaos, Chestnut Hill College advanced their lead to 20 points, 64-44, for the first time at 3:52 of the third quarter.
?Junior guard Ayanna Holloway (Philadelphia, Pa.) pushed the deficit to a game-high 26 points, 71-45, with 1:25 remaining in the frame and at the end of the third quarter break it held at 25 points, 75-50. The seemingly insurmountable margin was in fact that, but it did not endure without threat as the Warriors trimmed the final spread to 14 points, 98-84.
Parriski and Wildgoose did the dirty work under some busy boards; Parriski added a block and two steals to her second double-double of the season which came consecutively and in compliment to Wildgoose's, who also recorded an assist and a block.
The women's basketball team looks to extend their recent winning streak to four games on Monday, January 18, when they return to Sorgenti Arena to host Philadelphia University in a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest.
