Wildgoose Garners Sixth CACC Rookie Award, Career Night Returns Milligan to Weekly Report

New Haven, Conn. - (2/8/2016) – Leading Chestnut Hill College in a 1-1 week of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, freshman forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) and junior forward Lauren Milligan (South Hampton, England) were respectively recognized on the league’s weekly report as the Rookie of the Week and an Honor Roll nominee. It is the sixth CACC Rookie of the Week award for Wildgoose, who is second on the Griffins in scoring (13.8 points-per-game) and rebounding (8.3 rebounds-per-game). She averaged 19.5 PPG and 8.5 RPG while a career night helped Milligan average a double-double for the week (13.0 PPG & 12.0 RPG), while recording six assists, two blocks, and five steals.

Breaking out for a monster 21-point, 18-rebound double-double in Wednesday evening’s CACC contest at Georgian Court University, Milligan powered Chestnut Hill College (9-12, 7-7) to a 77-64 league triumph over the Lions. It is the third straight CACC win for the Griffins, who used a 52-30 rebounding advantage and a more efficient shooting effort (46.2%-32.4%) to overcome 21 turnovers in a season sweep of their South Division rival.

Chestnut Hill College led by one point at the end of the first quarter, 19-18, and by five points at halftime, 38-33 (0:05), on a last-possession layup from Wildgoose. In the second half, the Griffins developed a 10-point, 48-38 (3:30), third-quarter advantage, before expanding their lead to as many as 15 points, 77-62 (0:43), on a last-minute Milligan free throw. She was 7-of-11 (.636) from the field and 7-of-11 (.636) at the free throw line in the first 20-point effort of her career. She set career highs in both scoring and rebounding while recording two assists, a block, and two steals. Wildgoose recorded 18 points, nine rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

Now winners of their last three CACC contests, Chestnut Hill College fell victim to a more productive Caldwell University squad in a fast-paced game that ended in the Cougars' favor, 85-65. Five of them finished in double figures, overshadowing a 21-point effort from Wildgoose and double-digit performances from freshman guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) and junior guard Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.).

Caldwell University (17-7, 12-3) forged their advantage early, establishing an eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 27-19, and doubling the difference to 16 points, 46-30, by halftime. Despite a 50% (14-of-28, .500) shooting effort in the second half, Chestnut Hill College was not able to close the gap. In fact, the Cougars advanced their lead to as many as 20 points, 58-38, just before the three-minute mark (3:06) of the third quarter and maxed out their lead at 22 points, 77-55, with 5:37 remaining in the fourth quarter. Wildgoose recorded 13 of her 21 points in the second half, but it was not enough to derail the Cougars, who eventually captured a 20-point victory, 85-65. Wildgoose was efficient (10-of-15, .667) in her second 20-point performance of the season, adding a free throw (1-of-1, 1.000) to make it 21 points in all. She also recorded a team-high eight rebounds and an assist. Milligan offered five points, six rebounds, four assists, a block, and three steals.

The Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team continue the last-leg of their CACC schedule on Tuesday, February 9, when they welcome Wilmington University to campus for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
