Henry Harnesses Second Straight CACC Honorable Mention

 

New Haven, CT – (3/23/2010) – For the second straight week, junior catcher Bryan Henry (Columbus, N.J.) received an honorable mention among the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) weekly award winners. Henry is carrying a .455 batting average through the Griffins first, ten contests.

 

Henry opened the season with a .444 (8-for-18) batting average on the Griffins’ season-opening trip to Fort Pierce, Florida. Chestnut Hill College (4-6) began the 2010 season with a week of competition at the Florida Coast Spring Training, where Henry led the Griffins with four runs-batted-in (RBI) and a .667 slugging percentage. The Griffins went 1-5 down in Florida, earning a 9-3 win over the University of the Sciences. Henry knocked in two runs while going 4-for-5 with three runs scored. He was recognized by the CACC on March 15, 2010, as an honorable mention for the Player of the Week.

 

As the Griffins returned home they brought the warm weather with them and Henry remained hot, leading the Griffins to a 3-1 week. Henry was 2-for-4 with a run in the Griffins’ 8-1 win over Bloomsburg University on Wednesday, March 17, and he followed that performance with a 4-for-8 afternoon against Bloomfield College on Saturday, March 20. The Griffins secured two conference wins over the Deacons in their CACC-opening doubleheader. Henry was 2-for-4 in the opener and scored the Griffins’ insurance tally in a ninth inning, comeback effort. He also plated the Griffins’ third run of game two. Henry concluded the week with a 1-for-3 day against Kutztown University. He hit a three-run shot in the sixth inning bringing his RBI total to eight over the Griffins first, ten contests. He was once again recognized as an honorable mention by the CACC on the conference’s March 22 weekly report. Henry was 7-for-15 (.467) on the week  and successfully stole three bases on four attempts.

 

Henry leads the Griffins in batting .455 (15-for-33), and RBI (8) and is tied for the team lead in extra base hits (4). He has recorded 28 put outs, five assists and an error for a .971 fielding % behind the plate.

 

The baseball team will continue their CACC schedule this coming week with doubleheaders against Philadelphia University (3/24/10) and Caldwell College (3/27/10).
