Kohler and Ducretot Don First CACC Weekly Men’s Tennis Report

New Haven, Conn. - (2/22/2016) – Rewarded for their stellar play in appearances at Drew University’s Ranger Invitational and a dual match at The College of New Jersey, freshman Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) and sophomore Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) earned recognition on the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Men’s Tennis Report. Kohler garnered the league’s Rookie of the Week award while Ducretot appeared on the weekly Honor Roll.

Competing on the courts for the first time since the fall, the Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team stayed out of the winter freeze at Drew University's Simon Forum and Athletic Center where they join Wilkes University, Roger Williams University, and their hosts for the annual Ranger Invitational. The Griffins engaged the Colonels in Saturday's action, defeating their opponents from Wilkes University in four of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches. Kohler and Ducretot won in both formats as Kohler was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Wilkes University senior Max Apello (Sparta, N.J.) and Ducretot triumphed 7-5, 6-2 over junior Dominic Parfianowicz (Elmira, N.Y.). In doubles, Kohler and Ducretot combined for an 8-4 win over Parfianowicz and his brother Jacob (Elmira, N.Y).

Chestnut Hill College was near perfect in its second day of competition at Drew University's Ranger Invitational. A day after defeating Wilkes University in four of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches, the Griffins lost only a singles match to the Colonels before sweeping all matches versus foes from Roger Williams University and Drew University.
Kohler was victorious 6-0, 6-3 over Drew University senior Adam Clark (Fremont, Calif.) and combined with freshman Lucas Abe (Duderstadt, Germany) for an 8-4 win over Roger Williams University seniors Eric Laboissonniere (Cumberland, R.I.) and Jonah Schwartz (Orange, Conn.). He also joined freshman Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) for an 8-5 victory over the Ranger freshman Will Morrison (San Diego, Calif.) and Clark.

The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team engaged in team competition for the first time in four months this afternoon as they traveled to Ewing, New Jersey, for a match with The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). The Griffins were fortunate to escape the Lions with their perfect record intact, defeating their hosts 5-4 after owning a late 4-1 advantage.

Abe supplied the match-clinching victory for Chestnut Hill College (3-0), coming from behind in a 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, final at number six singles. The Griffins looked the match in hand early as they won two of three doubles flights from TCNJ (0-1), before extending their advantage to 4-1 on a pair of early singles wins. Ducretot and Kohler won those points at number four (6-3, 6-4) and number two singles (6-4, 7-5), respectively, but their efforts were followed by three consecutive Lion victories. The home team took number one singles (3-6, 6-3, 6-3), number three singles (6-3, 4-6, 6-0), and number five singles (6-3, 6-4), putting all the pressure on the sixth individual flight.

After surrendering the first point of the match to the Lions (8-4 @ #2 Doubles), the Griffins won at number three doubles (8-6), and one doubles (9-8 (8)) thanks to the efforts of Ducretot and Kohler.

The men's tennis team plays next on Sunday, February 28, in Orlando, Florida, where they will meet Loyola University for a 3:00 p.m. neutral site match.
