Eidam and Irvin Don CACC Softball Weekly Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. – (3/1/2016) – For their contributions during Chestnut Hill College’s opening week of competition in Florida, senior infielder Laura Eidam (South Salem, N.Y.) and freshman pitcher Hunter Irvin (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) were recognized on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll. Eidam hit .300 (3-for-10) with a pair of doubles and a run-batted-in (RBI) while Irvin went 0-1 in three appearances, holding opponents to six earned runs on 13 hits and five walks while striking out four.
After catching an afternoon flight on Thursday, February 25, and settling into their hotel, the Chestnut Hill College softball team visited Southeastern University for a season-opening doubleheader on, Friday, February 26. Senior third baseman Sofia Cedrone (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded two hits in an 8-0 five-inning loss while freshmen, second baseman Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) and catcher Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) each recorded a hit in a 10-2 five-inning loss that saw the hosting Fire win despite six errors. Eidam doubled while Irvin provided three innings of scoreless relief in game one.
On Saturday, February 27, Chestnut Hill College challenged Warner University in a pair of contests that ended in respective finals of 3-2 (8 innings) and 10-3. The Royals won the opener with a lead-off walk and single in the eighth inning. Riotte recorded two hits while junior pinch runner Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.) and freshman left fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) accounted for the Griffins' only two runs of the contest. The second game saw Warner University score five runs in the first inning and four in the fourth inning before a solo Royal crossed in the fifth inning to overcome some advantageous Griffin base running and run-scoring Eidam double.
On Sunday's, February 28, Webber International University (WIU) hosted Chestnut Hill College in a pair of afternoon softball games. Senior designated players Julie Heaton (Berlin, NJ.) ripped two hits and scored the Griffins' lone run in the opener (5-1, WIU), but the Scarlet and Gold went to game two still looking for their first win of the season. But they did not find it there either as a five-run Warrior third inning overshadowed a three-run Griffin second inning in a 7-3 final. Irvin took the loss (0-1) in game two, allowing four earned runs on six hits and four walks, while striking out two. Eidam was 1-for-3 with a run.
?The Griffins next twin bill will be played on Tuesday, March 1, at Palm Beach Atlantic University, where they are scheduled for a for a 5:00 p.m. first pitch.
