Trossi Concludes Freshman Season With Third CACC Weekly Honor Roll Mention

New Haven, Conn. – (3/1/2016) – After scoring her collegiate high 29 points in an 83-78 overtime loss at Philadelphia University on Tuesday, February 23, freshman guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) offered three points, a rebound, and an assist in the Griffins first-ever CACC Championship Tournament appearance. The effort earned her a third mention on the league’s Weekly Honor Roll; she was named the CACC Rookie of the Week on January 11 after averaging 19.0 points-per-game (PPG), 6.5 rebounds-per-game (RPG), seven assists, and two steals in Chestnut Hill College league wins at Post University (83-44 on 1/6) and Concordia College (NY (69-61 on 1/9).

Chestnut Hill College looked to take down their second straight CACC postseason bound team in as many games, as the Griffins forced overtime in Tuesday evening's league contest at Philadelphia University. Unfortunately, the Lady Rams outscored the Scarlet and Gold 14-9 in the extra frame to win the season finale by an 83-78 margin.

The Lady Rams' fourth-quarter lead hovered around five points for most of the frame and settled a six points, 65-59 at 3:26, before collapsing to two points, 67-65 at 1:38, after three-pointers from junior guards Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and eventually to zero, 69-69 at 0:04, on Trossi's heroic jumper. In overtime, however, Philadelphia University (22-6, 18-1) quickly jumped out to a four-point, 73-69 (3:59), lead. After a couple of baskets from senior forward Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa.), they made their free throws to expanded their advantage to as many as seven points, 78-71 (0:35), in the closing minutes. Trossi was 10-of-19 (.526) from the field, 2-of-4 (.500) from three, and a perfect 7-of-7 (1.000) from the line despite her season success rate of 58.9% (76-of-129). She also recorded five rebounds and six assists.

A near replication of the regular-season meeting, Saturday's CACC Opening Round contest at #1N Bloomfield College that ended in the Bears' favor, 64-48, with the home team seizing an 18-13 first-quarter advantage before leading #4S Chestnut Hill College 31-23 at halftime. Junior forward Lauren Milligan (South Hampton, England) led the Griffins with a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double that was complimented by double-digit performances from freshman forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) and junior guard Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.).

The Scarlet and Gold finishes the 2015-2016 season with a program-best 12-15 overall record and a 10-9 CACC standing.
