New Haven, Conn. – (3/22/2016) – Providing some pop at the top of the lineup, senior left fielder Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.) was 7-for-13 with a pair of home runs in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheaders versus Goldey-Beacom College and at Concordia College (NY) last week. Meanwhile on the mound, junior Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif.) posted a 0.50 earned run average (ERA) as she collected her first two wins of the season and struck out 11 over 14 innings of work. For their efforts, Carney and Holloway were respectively recognized as the CACC Player of the Week and a CACC Honor Roll selection.

Racing the sunlight after a 20-minute rain delay in game one, Chestnut Hill College scored a pair of victories, 8-2 and 2-1 (5 innings), in Wednesday’s, March 16, league opener with Goldey-Beacom College. In game one, the heavy-hitting of senior designated player Laura Eidam (South Salem, N.Y.) brought home three runs while Holloway earned her first win of the season, surrendering only one earned run on five hits. She struck out five in the victory (1-7) while Carney went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Game two finished in a little over an hour with senior pitcher Kaitlyn Johnson (New Boston, N.H.) earing her second win (2-6) while a Carney first-inning lead-off home run and a third-inning double from junior shortstop Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.) plated the two runs needed to win a five-inning contest. Carney finished 1-for-2 with a run and a run-batted-in (RBI).
Â
Making good use of a 3-for-4 game-one effort from Carney, Chestnut Hill College left Concordia College (NY) on Saturday, March 19, with a CACC split. The Scarlet and Gold catalyst led-off the opener with a single and homered in the fifth inning to power the Griffins to a 5-2 victory. Holloway earned her second win (2-7) of the season, limiting the Clippers to a pair of unearned runs on four hits and two walks. She struck out six. The Clippers got retribution in game two, scoring four fifth-inning runs to endure three late-inning Griffin tallies in a 5-4 final. Carney was 2-for-3 in that contest while senior catcher Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) and junior first baseman Jenna Long (North Wildwood, N.J.) knocked in two runs apiece with their two-hit performances.

The softball team briefly breaks from their CACC schedule, on Tuesday, March 22, for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader versus East Stroudsburg University.
