Kohler Secures Third CACC Rookie Award, Bocaletto Appears on Weekly Honor Roll
Philadelphia, Pa. - (3/26/2016) – Freshman Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) continued an impressive rookie campaign with another week of perfect play. The performance earned him his third Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week award while sophomore Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) returned to the weekly report as an Honor Roll mention.
Taking advantage of the early spring weather, Chestnut Hill College hosted Gwynedd Mercy University in Thursday afternoon’s match. The battle of the Griffins went in the home team's favor as a sweep of doubles play set the stage for an eventual 9-0 Scarlet and Gold victory.
Sophomore Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) and Kohler began the shutout with an 8-0 win at number one doubles. Chestnut Hill College (4-4) went on to win the second and third flights by matching 8-1 finals as well with seniors Henry Boyle (London, England) and Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) finishing off their Gwynedd Mercy University counterparts just a little bit ahead of the Griffins third-flight combo, junior Pedro Oranges de Figueredo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman Lucas Abe (Duderstadt, Germany).
Singles play went just as well with Bocaletto opening the round on a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at number one singles. His victory was followed by a 6-0, 6-1 Henry win at number two singles, a 6-0, 6-2 Oranges win at number five singles, a 6-0, 6-1 win at number six singles from sophomore Daniel Awad (Cartagena, Colombia), a 6-4, 6-1 Abe victory at number three singles, and a 6-2, 6-2 Taylor win at number four singles.
The Chestnut Hill College men’s and women’s tennis teams shared the campus courts for the first time this season on Saturday, March 26, when they welcomed the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) for an afternoon dual match. The men finished first with the Griffins winning in shutout fashion, 9-0, before junior Louise Charley (St. Jean de Luz, France) completed the sweep in a 5-4 women’s win.
Chestnut Hill College (5-4) breezed through doubles play as they defeated UDC (2-6) all three flights. Boceletto and Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) were the first ones done with their 8-2 win at number two doubles, 8-2. Ducretot and Kohler were next at number one doubles, 8-1, just a little ahead of Boyle and Taylor in the third flight, 8-5.
Singles came with a little more of a struggle as the Firebirds forced the Griffins to three sets in the second, first, and fourth individual matches. Regalin ended his day first with his 6-0, 6-2, triumph at number three singles. Kohler was next, winning number two singles 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Bocaletto also won his three-set match, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, before Ducretot, Boyle, and freshman Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) cleaned up at number four, 5-7, 6-0, 11-9, number six, 6-1, 6-2, and number five singles, 6-3, 6-2, respectively.
The Chestnut Hill College men’s tennis opens their CACC schedule with their next match. A 3:00 p.m. opening serve opposite the University of the Sciences (USciences) is schedule for Wednesday, March 30.
