Balcer and Kirkpatrick Swing Recognition on Weekly CACC Report

Shoreham, N.Y. – (4/2/2016) – Senior captain Matthew Balcer (Bensalem, Pa.) tied for third place (69-76, 145, +3) and freshman Brian Kirkpatrick (Jacksonville, Fla.) tied for 35th (75-80, 155, +13) at last weekend’s Dowling College Spring Memorial Invitational, leading Chestnut Hill College to a tie for third place (T3rd of 13, 299-306, 605, +37) and earning themselves a mention on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Report. Balcer shared the CACC Player of the Week award with Goldey-Beacom College’s junior Garrett Brown (Severn, Md.) while Kirkpatrick secured the CACC Rookie of the Week title.

With two rounds of the Dowling College Spring Memorial Invitational completed, Chestnut Hill College remained tied for third (T3rd of 13) place with 605 (299-306, +37) combined strokes at the Tall Grass Country Club in Shoreham, New York.  A higher scoring second round saw Balcer drop from his shared day-one perch (T1st, 69, -2) to reside in a tie for third place (145, +3) with a day-two score of 76 (+5). Le Moyne College (289-296, 585, +17) provided the tournament’s top two swingers to post a 14-stroke advantage over its closest competitor, Bentley University (301-298, 599, +31).

Le Moyne College junior John Clare (Camillus, N.Y.) emerged as the sole leader after the second round, separating from Balcer by two strokes (69-74, 143 (+1)) with his day-two score of 74 (+3). He was immediately trailed by a fellow Dolphin, senior Adrian Fuller (Syracuse, N.Y.), who scored back-to-back rounds of 72 (+1) to rest at 144 (+2) strokes.

Behind Balcer, sophomore Sam Riemer (Canton, Mass.) offered the Griffins’ next best two-day total (152, +10) with matching rounds of 76 (+5) tying him for 21st. They were supported by Kirkpatirck (T35th, 75-80, 155, +13), junior Anthony Hoffman (Philadelphia, Pa.) (T39th, 82-74, 156, +14), and senior Cody Bloom (San Diego, Calif.) (T47th, 79-80, 159, +17).

The Chestnut Hill College golf team takes their last competitive swings before the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament next weekend, April 9 and 10, when they visit Timber Banks Golf Club for Le Moyne College’s Mike Belo Invitational.
