Kohler Continues to Shine As League Top Rookie
New Haven, Conn. - (4/11/2016) – Freshman Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) won a pair of matches in both formats, helping Chestnut Hill College to a 2-1 week of play against Philadelphia University, the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), and Bloomsburg University. His performance earned him his fourth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week award and fifth appearance on the league’s weekly men’s tennis report.
Finding time to play in between the early spring showers, Chestnut Hill College made it two CACC victories in a row by a 7-2 final with Wednesday’s win over Philadelphia University. The Griffins once again led their league rival 2-1 after doubles play, separating for a 4-1 advantage with the first two victories of singles play before clinching the match with a 6-1, 6-3, win from Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) in the third individual flight. Kohler recorded a 0-6, 6-0, 6-1, win at number two singles.
With the weekend schedule for the Bloomsburg University Duals almost completely washed out, the Chestnut Hill College men’s (8-5, 2-0) and women’s tennis team put their full concentration on Friday’s challenge at the NYIT. The first match of the afternoon featured a battle of nationally ranked teams as #13 NYIT women defeated their #45 Chestnut Hill College counterparts by a 6-3 final. The Bears (#34) won the men’s match as well, 8-1. The Griffin men looked to build off their 8-6 number one doubles victory from sophomore Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) and Kohler, but the Bears had other plans as they swept the remaining doubles flights and all of the singles round.
Heading to the final stretch of their 2015-2016 regular season schedule, Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis team visited Bloomsburg University for respective dual matches against the hosting huskies and Kutztown University. The Griffins women opened the snow-shortened weekend invitational with a 9-0 triumph over the Golden Bears while the men enjoyed a 6-3 afternoon victory over Bloomsburg University. In the singles ranks, Griffin wins at number one singles (6-3, 6-2) and number five singles (6-1, 2-6, 6-1) came courtesy of sophomore Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and freshman Lucas Abe (Duderstadt, Germany), respectively. After an unfortunate 6-4, 6-4, Husky win at number three singles, it was Kohler's 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, number two singles success that sealed the deal.
The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team plays next on Wednesday, April 13, when they host Bloomfield College in a 12:00 p.m. CACC match.
