Kirkpatrick and Riemer Garner CACC Weekly Recognition for by at Mike Belo Invitational

New Haven, Conn. – (4/15/2016) – Playing their part in the Griffins’ recent tie for seventh (T7th of 15) place at Le Moyne College’s Mike Belo Invitational, freshman Brian Kirkpatrick (Jacksonville, Fla.) and sophomore Sam Riemer (Canton, Mass.) were recently recognized on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Weekly Report. Kirkpatrick earned his second Rookie of the Week award with his tie for 18th (77-75, 152, +8) while Riemer’s tie for 14th (77-74, 151, +7) placed him on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll for the first time this season.

Despite needing 300 strokes to finish today’s second, and final, round of Le Moyne College’s Mike Belo Invitational, CACC rival, Concordia College (NY) was able to hold onto the victory with 595 (295-300, +19) combined strokes. Their two-day total outlasted sub-300, day-two performances from Southern New Hampshire University (296, +8), the College of St. Rose (298, +8), and Bentley University (298, +10), who challenged the Clippers for the top spot. They were led by Sebastian Rosa, whose second-day 74 (+2) was good enough to preserve his day-one first place standing (1st, 70-74, 144, +2).

Improving from a day-one score of 77 (+5), Reimer advanced eight spots to tie for 14th as his two-day total of 151 (77-74, +7) led Chestnut Hill College to a tie for seventh place (T7th of 15, 310-310, 620, +44). The Griffins’ best day-one competitor, senior captain Matthew Balcer (Bensalem, Pa.), shot a 79 (+7) in his second round, which rendered him in a tie for 26th (75-79, +10). Between Riemer and Balcer, Chestnut Hill College placed Kirkpatrick, who completed the invitational in a tie for 18th, as he finished two strokes better (75, +3) than his first round of 77 (+5). Senior Cody Bloom (San Diego, Calif.) finished tied for 60th (81-82, 163, +19) and junior Anthony Hoffman (Philadelphia, Pa.) tied for 67th (83-82, 165, +21).

The Chestnut Hill College golf team next competes for the CACC title on Monday, April 18-20, when they join their league rivals at Back Creek Golf Club for the 2016 Championship Tournament.
