Apodaca Appears on CACC Weekly Softball Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. – (4/16/2016) – Junior shortstop Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.) batted .423 (11-for-26) with seven runs-batted-in (RBI) to account for a majority of the Griffins’ offense in a busy week of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play that included twin bills opposite Georgian Court University, #21 Caldwell University, Philadelphia University, and Dominican College. For her effort, she was recognized on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.

On Tuesday, April 12, an 8-0 five-inning victory in the first game put Chestnut Hill College in the right position to pursue the CACC sweep, but early Georgian Court University runs led the way to a split as they defeated the Griffins in an 8-4 nightcap. Freshman right fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) recorded five hits (5-for-8) in the twin bill, but it was a five RBI performance from Apodaca and the precise pitching of junior Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif.) that led the Griffins to their game-one victory.

Accounting for half of Chestnut Hill College's hits in run-shortened Cougar wins of 10-0 (6) and 8-0 (5), seniors, left fielder Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.) and designated player Lara Eidam (South Salem, N.Y.) each recorded a hit in both games of Wednesday's CACC doubleheader versus #21 Caldwell University. The visitors lived up to their billing, scoring early and often behind a pair of home runs and seven runs-batted-in (RBI) from sophomore Marisa Monasseri (Monroe, N.J.).

In search of a revenge from a 2-1 game-one loss, Chestnut Hill College found themselves with a 5-1 advantage in the fourth inning of game two versus Philadelphia University on Thursday, April 14. Unfortunately, the Lady Rams rallied for four runs in the sixth inning and two more with two out in the seventh inning to complete the CACC sweep on a 7-5 final. Apodaca recorded three hits in the opener, senior second baseman Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) totaled three hits in the nightcap, while senior catcher Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) split her three hits between the two games.

After dropping a 2-0 CACC decision in game one, Chestnut Hill College looked for revenge in the second affair. A lead-off, ground-rule double from Eidam knotted the latter contest at 1-1 after two innings, but a four-run Dominican College fourth inning set the stage for their eventual sweep, 6-1. Heaton record three hits (3-for-6) in the twin bill while Holloway kept the Griffins involved in the opener. Apodaca recorded two hits (2-for-6).

The Griffins briefly break from their CACC schedule to travel to Millersville University on Thursday, April 21, for a 6:00 p.m. doubleheader.
