McBride Merits CACC Weekly Honor Roll For Play at Weekend Invitationals
New Haven, Conn. - (9/6/2016) – Headlining Chestnut Hill College’s 2-2 weekend-showing at the Molloy College and Queens College Invitationals, senior outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) totaled 47 points to earn a mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll. The Griffin captain first powered the Scarlet and Gold to a pair of victories at Molloy College on Friday, September 2, with 27 kills on an efficient .481 (27K-2E-52TA) hitting percentage, four aces, 22 digs, and a block, before totaling 15 more kills, 16 digs, an assist, and a block in Saturday’s, September 3, Queens College Invitational matches versus American International College (AIC) and the hosting Knights.
The 2016 Chestnut Hill College women’s volleyball season began on Friday evening, as Chestnut Hill College traveled to Rockville Centre, New York, for a pair of matches at Molloy College’s Long Island Invitational. First on the docket for the Griffins was Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), who the Scarlet and Gold promptly turn aside in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-20) final. Hot off their first win, the Griffins briefly stumbled, allowing the hosting Lions a 25-17 first-set win before rallying for a 3-1 triumph with subsequent victories of 25-16, 25-14, and 27-25. McBride’s respective 16.5-point and 15-point performances led the Griffins in each case as the senior outside hitter amassed 42 kills, four aces, and 1.5 blocks over the course of the evening.
Unfortunately, the Griffins’ early-season success came to a halt with Saturday’s action at Queens College. There, Chestnut Hill College (2-2) suffered a 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-18) loss to AIC before falling to the hosting Knights by a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-15) final. Junior right side Samantha Gelfan (Chandler, Ariz.) totaled the most kills on the afternoon for the Scarlet and Gold, scoring 12 in addition to her three digs and four blocks. Freshman outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Indianapolis, Ind.) was a noteworthy contributor in both matches with three aces, a kill, and four digs versus the Yellow Jackets and seven kills, seven digs, and a block against Queens College. McBride scored 10 kills in the loss to the Yellow Jackets and five in defeat against the Knights.
The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team will look for revenge against AIC on Friday, September 9, when they face both the Yellow Jackets (1:00 p.m.) and Pace University (5:00 p.m.) during the first day of competition at Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Wilmington University's Wildcat Regional Invitational.
