Barton and Lopez Lure CACC Honor Roll Mentions

New Haven, Conn. - (9/20/2016) – Runs by Senior Eric Barton (Colora, Md.) and sophomore Raquel Lopez (East Meadow, N.Y.) paced Chestnut Hill College to a pair of first-place finishes at the Queensborough Community College Invitational over the weekend. For their efforts Barton (3rd, 29:14.9) and Lopez (6th, 22:16.30) were recognized with mentions on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll. It is the second straight mention for Barton, who also earned a spot on the Honor Roll after last week’s record-setting run (5th, 17:55.70) at the heat-shortened Philadelphia Metro Meet.

Lopez and Mackenzie Hooven (Philadelphia, Pa.) paced the Chestnut Hill College women in the five-kilometer (5K) run at Van Cortlandt Park while four Griffin men in the top-10 of the eight kilometer (8K) run; both Scarlet and Gold sides scored first-place finishes at the Queensborough Community College Invitational, scoring 50 points (1st of 14) and 40 points (1st of 15) in their respective races. The effort was a first for the Griffins, who never before recorded simultaneous victories.

Lopez and Hooven ran back-to-back, placing sixth (22:16.30) and seventh (22:27.6), respectively for Chestnut Hill College. The Griffins added 11th place (23:28.00) and 13th place (23:38.00) finishes from junior captain Emily Benson-Abatangelo (East Meadow, N.Y.) and sophomore Allison Heuwetter (Iselin, N.J.) to overcome the field. The fifth scoring Griffin was sophomore Kelly Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa.), who placed 25th with her time of 24:57.40.

Barton and a trio of freshmen, Frank McGregor (Collegeville, Pa.), Aaron Morris (Philadelphia, Pa.) (18:49.6), and Zigmund Fisher (Chadds Ford, Pa.), all placed among the top-10 in the men’s run. Barton fronted the pack with his 3rd place time of 29:14.9. McGregor was just two spots behind, crossing fourth with a time of 29:59.30. Morris and Fisher ran eighth (30:30.40) and 10th (30:33.40), respectively. A 14th place (30:55.00) run from freshman Alex Lynch (Manchester, N.J.) (19:07.3) kept all scoring Griffins among the top-15.

The Chestnut Hill College cross country teams will take a weekend off before visiting Lehigh University for the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday, October 1.
