Josso Earns CACC Honor Roll Recognition With Play versus Tigers and Cougars
New Haven, Conn. - (9/20/2016) – A 3-1 start to the 2016-2017 season has earned senior Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France) a mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll. In a pair of league losses to Holy Family University (5-4 on September 14) and Caldwell University (5-4 on September 17), Chestnut Hill College’s top singles competitor went 2-0 in the top individual flight and 1-1 with sophomore Daniela Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) at number one doubles.
Holy Family University (3-2, 1-1) won 4-of-6 singles points to top Chestnut Hill College (0-2, 0-2), 5-4, on Tuesday afternoon. The Griffins opened strong in doubles play with the pairing of senior Louise Charley (St. Jean de Luz, France) and sophomore Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) securing the first point of the night with an 8-0 victory at the number two flight (1-0). Up 2-0 following a victory at number three doubles, The Griffins could not earn the doubles sweep as Tigers won the battle convincingly, 8-1, at number one doubles (2-1). Josso atoned for the doubles loss with her 7-5, 6-4 victory at number one singles. And after an individual Siqueira win at number four singles (6-3, 5-7, 10-5), Chestnut Hill College held a 4-3 advantage. Unfortunately, Holy Family University responded with match-stealing wins at number two singles (6-3, 7-5) and number five singles (6-3, 4-6, 10-2).
The Griffins continued their CACC schedule on Sunday afternoon at Caldwell University, where the Cougars emerged for a 5-4 win over the Scarlet and Gold. Shorthanded, the Scarlet and Gold surrendered a point to Caldwell University (2-2, 1-1) a number three doubles, before tying up this afternoon’s CACC match with an 8-5 victory at number one doubles (1-1). Josso and Siqueira were responsible for the point there, but the Cougars took the second doubles 9-8 (3) to lead 2-1 heading to individual play. Again, the Eagles earned a free point at the start of singles play (3-1), but the Griffins quickly responded with Josso and Charley earning respective victories at number one singles (6-0, 6-1) and number two singles (6-3, 6-0) to tie the affair at 3-3. Unfortunately, the home side enjoyed succeeding triumphs in the middle two individual flights - 6-1, 6-2, and 6-0, 6-0, respectively – to clinch the match on by a 5-3 margin.
The Chestnut Hill College women’s tennis team continues CACC play on Tuesday, September 20, when they travel to Waterbury, Connecticut, for a 3:00 p.m. match versus Post University.
