Perfect Performance Scores CACC Player of the Week Title for Josso

Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/26/2016) – Chestnut Hill College’s early-season troubles continued this week with three more 5-4 losses to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponents. The silver lining for the Griffins has been senior Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France), who went 6-0 with three wins at doubles two doubles, with sophomore Daniela Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil), and three individual wins at number one singles. The perfect performance earned Josso her second appearance on the league’s weekly women’s tennis report; this time as the CACC Player of the Week.

Chestnut Hill College (0-5, 0-5) traveled to Post University (3-2, 2-0) for Tuesday’s league match. The Eagles gained the initial advantage with a pair of doubles wins (2-1). The Scarlet and Gold managed to keep the deficit at one, 4-3, with a pair of individual victories from Siqueira and Josso, unfortunately, a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, decision in the second singles flight clinched the match, 5-3, before a third-flight win from sophomore Hannah Murphy (Christchurch, England) left the final score in the home team’s favor, 5-4. Siqueira and Josso teamed for a 9-7 triumph at number two doubles and Josso won her number one singles flight, 7-5, 6-3, as well.

The run of 5-4 losses continued over the weekend as Chestnut Hill College lost Friday afternoon’s CACC match at Philadelphia University (3-4, 1-2) and Saturday’s match versus Wilmington University (4-2, 3-1) by the same final. The Griffins trailed the Lady Rams 2-1 heading to individual play, where they grabbed a 4-2 advantage before dropping three straight singles flights. Then, opposite the Wildcats, Chestnut Hill College owned the advantage after doubles play, 2-1, and increased it to 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-0, Josso win at number one singles. But the victory was followed by four straight Wilmington University wins that stole the match for the visitors, 5-4. At Philadelphia University, Josso joined Siqueira for an 8-3 win at number two doubles before securing her individual match, 6-2, 6-0, at the start of singles play. Against the Wildcats, Josso and Siqueira won the second team flight 8-4, prior to Josso winning her number one singles match by a 6-0, 6-0, mark.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s tennis team breaks from CACC play to compete as individuals in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championships, which are schedule to begin next Saturday, October 1, at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT).
