Jackson Draws CACC Defensive Player of the Week Award, Casaletto Dons Second Weekly Honor Roll

Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/10/2016) – Senior goalkeeper James Jackson (Sewell, N.J.) and junior midfielder Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) both appeared om the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Soccer Weekly Report for the second time this season as Jackson garnered the league’s Defensive Player of the Week distinction while Casaletto received mention on the league’s Honor Roll.

ackson enjoyed a 2-0 week of conference play, making three saves in a 3-1 victory over Holy Family University and recording seven saves in a 1-0 triumph over Bloomfield College. Meanwhile, Casaletto provided the game-winning tally in each contest, first heading a pass from junior forward Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England) for the second Griffin goal versus the Tigers and then scoring a penalty kick as the only score in the victory over the Bears.

Chestnut Hill College (4-7, 3-5) used a pair of first half tallies and added an insurance goal late to top Holy Family University, 3-1, in Wednesday night’s CACC action at Victory Field #1. The Griffins, but they would trade possessions with the Tigers until Gray sent a ball deep into the box where Casaletto was waiting. A quick header beat the Holy Family University keeper for the 2-0 lead. Following halftime, the Tigers looked to pounce, cutting the deficit down to one (2-1) just 3:29 into the second half. But despite playing a man-down for much of the second half, the Griffins generated quality offensive chances, finally adding an insurance tally in the 64th minute (63:58), when a long pass into the box found sophomore forward Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland) for the third Griffin tally of the affair (3-1). Jackson notched three saves in the victory.

The Griffins made it three league wins in a row with Saturday afternoon’s 1-0 win over Bloomfield College. A rematch of last year’s CACC title bout, the Griffins and Bears pushed each other to the limit in a physical 90-minute affair. Luckily, a deep Scarlet and Gold throw-in from sophomore defenseman Jordan Arpan (Exton, Pa.) found Gray in good position. The Bears’ reaction triggered a whistle in the box and placed Casaletto on the penalty kick hash for a game-winning strike at 64:33. Jackson (4-7) made seven saves and earn his third shutout of the season.

The Chestnut Hill College men’s soccer team returns to action next Saturday, October 15, when they visit Nyack College for a 2:30 p.m. CACC contest.
