Guagenti and Cobb-Wilkins Earn Honor Roll Mentions on CACC Weekly Report
New Haven, Conn. - (10/10/2016) – Junior goalkeeper Meghan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.) and her classmate, junior midfielder, Kiersten Cobb-Wilkins (Lowman, N.Y.) both garnered Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll recognition for their efforts in a 1-0-1 week of league play. Guagenti offered a career-high 15 saves to a 3-0 shutout of league-leading Holy Family University on Tuesday night and totaled two saves in a double-overtime time tie with Bloomfield College, while Cobb-Wilkins provided a goal and an assist in the victory over the Tigers.
Chestnut Hill College used a heroic performance from Guagenti to earn their first CACC victory of the season on Tuesday evening. The Griffins topped Holy Family University by a score of 3-0 at Victory Field #1 with their junior goalkeeper recording a career-best 15 shots in the shutout victory. Cobb-Wilkins led the attack with a goal and an assist on the evening.
The Tigers mounted the pressure early and often in the first half, testing the Scarlet and Gold backline with excellent scoring chances. But several fantastic saves by Guagenti and blocked shots by the defense kept the game knotted at 0-0 entering the halftime break. The second half began similar to the first, but the tide would turned in the 66th minute, (65:30), when a foul 35 yards from the box set Cobb-Wilkins with a free position shot. She launched a looping shot that found its way into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead and triggered the Griffin offense for a pair of insurance goals in the next 36 seconds. The first of which began with another long Cobb-Wilkins free kick that caromed to the foot of junior forward Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) for the 2-0 lead at 73:12. The Griffins would put an exclamation point on the night just seconds later (73:48), when freshman midfielder Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.) found a freshman forward Cecilia DuMond (Philadelphia, Pa.) for the third home goal (3-0) of the affair.
Junior forwards Morgan Ruth (Blackwood, N.J.) and Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) each netted a goal as the Chestnut Hill College earned a 2-2, double-overtime tie against Bloomfield on Saturday afternoon. The second half proved to be a goaltending duel, with Chestnut Hill College junior Meghan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.) and Bloomfield College freshman Adeline Argabrite (Bloomfield, N.J.) standing tall for their respective sides. Unfortunately, the Bears knotted the game at 2-2 in the 75th minute (74:54), leaving the teams to trade possession over the final 15 minutes. Neither side broke through in the extra time, rendering Guagenti (2-6-1) with a tie on two saves.
The Chestnut Hill College women’s soccer team will return action on Monday, October 10, when they host non-conference foe Chowan University at 1:00 p.m.
