Koehler Crushes Devils for Return To CACC Weekly Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. - (10/17/2016) – Senior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.) earned her fourth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Report mention with today’s selection to the league’s Honor Roll. Koehler recorded a match-high 15 kills while hitting .591 (15K-2E-22TA) in Chestnut Hill College critical 3-1 (27-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-5) CACC victory over the University of the Sciences (USciences) on Tuesday, October 11. She also recorded five blocks and a pair of digs. Koehler was previously named the CACC Player of the Week on October 3 and selected for CACC Honor Roll recognition on September 19 and 12.

Led by three kills from freshman outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Indianapolis, Ind.), Chestnut Hill College (8-10, 6-3) opened an 8-4 lead in the first set against USciences (4-9, 3-7). But the Devils responded, knotting the game at 10-10, and trading points with the Griffins until falling behind by an 18-14 measure. They eventually staved off five set-points, but the Scarlet and Gold was finally able to break through, capturing the first set 27-25.

The second set saw the Devils take control during the middle portion of the set, opening up a 16-12 advantage before the Griffins responded. The closed out the set on a 13-2 run that settled the frame on a 25-18 mark. With the Scarlet and Gold up 2-0, the third set stalled at 10-10 before a 10-1 Devil run blew the game open. The Griffins chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to five points, 23-17, only for USciences to hold on for a 25-19 victory.

Fortunately, Chestnut Hill College opened the fourth set with a bang as they raced out to a 9-1 advantage following a Koehler kill. The lead ballooned to 13 points, 17-4, before Byxbee put the game to rest with five kills in an 8-1 Griffin that clinched the match with a 25-5 victory.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, October 19, when they visit Holy Family University for a 7:00 p.m. CACC match.
