Trabosh Touts Second CACC Defensive Player of the Week Award
Philadelphia, Pa. - (11/4/2016) – Chestnut Hill College senior libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) garnered her second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Defensive Player of the Week award, totaling 47 digs in addition to two kills, four assists, and three aces in league matches versus Wilmington University on Wednesday, November 2 and Philadelphia University on Friday, November 4. The reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Year, Trabosh was also named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week on October 3, when she shared the award with Georgian Court University’s senior middle blocker Kelsie Blue (Waretown, N.J.).
Trabosh recorded 26 digs, three assists, and a pair of aces while senior outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) scored 13 kills and added 25 digs in a crucial 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-16, 30-28) CACC victory over Wilmington University (9-16, 6-10) on Wednesday night. Chestnut Hill College (11-14, 9-7) grabbed a 2-1 lead before a fourth set for the ages, saw neither team would give an inch. Chestnut Hill College held a slim 16-15 edge following a kill by McBride, but it did not last long as an 8-5 run by the visitors left the spread at 23-21. Trailing 24-22, the Griffins responded with kills by senior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.) and freshman middle hitter Cassie Callahan (Bridgeton, Mo.) knotting the score at 24-24. The Wildcats got one more opportunity to close out the contest, but the Griffins would not be denied, with a key block by sophomore setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) and junior right side Samantha Gelfan (Chandler, Ariz.) putting the hosts up 29-28. The Scarlet and Gold was able to clinch the marathon set on the next point as a Wildcat attacking error settled the frame on a 30-28 Griffin victory and the match on a 3-1 Chestnut Hill College final. With the win, the Griffins clinched their first CACC Championship Tournament appearance since 2011.
Two days later, on Friday, Trabosh was recognized along with her fellow seniors as the Chestnut Hill College Department of Athletics honored the women’s volleyball graduating class prior to the start of their final collegiate home match. Fellow honoree, McBride registered her second straight double-double, but it would not be enough to defeat Philadelphia University, who spoiled the celebration with a 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 20-25, 14-25) CACC victory.
Once the action started Chestnut Hill College raced out to an early lead on Tabosh’s serve as a kill by Koehler staked the hosts to a 4-1 advantage. The Griffins extended their lead to a 15-9 advantage, enough to keep Philadelphia University (23-4, 15-1) at bay in a 25-19 set victory. Unfortunately, the Scarlet and Gold could not maintain their edge as the Lady Rams rattled off three consecutive wins; 25-16, 25-20, 25-14, for the 3-1 league win.
McBride led the Griffins with 10 kills, 16 digs, and two service aces. Koehler was second on the team with eight kills while Trabosh rounded out the strong play of the senior class with two kills, one assist, one ace, and a match-best 21 digs.
Chestnut Hill College continues CACC play on Tuesday, November 8, when they travel to the University of the Sciences (USciences) for a 7:00 p.m. match.
