McDonough Joins Kuhnen on CACC Weekly Honor Roll

New Haven. Conn. - (11/21/2016) – Returning to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Report for a second straight installment, Chestnut Hill College senior guard Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) garnered a spot on the league’s weekly Honor Roll. She was joined there by senior guard Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who recorded 12 points, a rebound, seven assists, a block, and four steals in the Scarlet and Gold’s 80-78 CACC win over Georgian Court University on Tuesday, November 16. Kuhnen was one of two Griffins to finish the contest with a double-double as she added two assists and two steals to 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Chestnut Hill College (2-0, 1-0) jumped out of the gate early, mounting a 7-0 run in the first 1:43 of the quarter. Georgian Court University (1-2, 0-1) responded, slowing the Griffins to an 11-11 tie with 4:20 left in the opening frame. The contest remained tied, 22-22, at the end of the period, but it continued its frenetic pace as the Scarlet and Gold opened up a 26-22 second-quarter edge following a Kuhnen three-pointer at 9:01. The Griffins maintained their advantage to the middle stage of the quarter, extending it to five points, 38-33, on old-fashion three-point play by sophomore forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) at 2:06. Unfortunately, the Lions tied the contest up 38-38 (0:59), before a McDonough jumper sent the Griffins to the locker room up 40-38.

After halftime, Chestnut Hill College came out firing, starting the third quarter on an 11-4 run that was capped by a three-pointer from junior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) at 5:16 (51-42). Defense allowed the Griffins to temporarily stabilize their advantage, never letting the Lions closer than four points (57-53 at 1:17) for the remainder of the period. Still the Griffins’ 62-55 third quarter edge disappeared midway through the closing frame (68-68 at 5:43). The CACC rivals traded baskets down the stretch, leaving Tumasz to score the go-ahead, 79-78, bucket with 49 seconds (0:49) remaining and the game-clinching free throw, 80-78, with 34 seconds (0:34) left.

Chestnut Hill College returns to action on Tuesday, November 22, when they travel to non-conference foe Bloomsburg University for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
