Chestnut Hill College Touts Wildgoose And Trossi as CACC Weekly Honor Roll Honorees
Â
New Haven, Conn. - (12/20/2016) – One provided three consecutive double-double while the other averaged 14.3 points-per-game (PPG), 6.7 rebounds-per-game (RPG), and 6.7 assists-per-game (APG) and recorded the first triple-double in Chestnut Hill College basketball history. But both sophomore forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) and sophomore guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) earned recognition on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll for their outstanding contributions to a 2-1 week of play against Wilmington University (W, 102-67), Kutztown University (W, 94-92 (OT)), and the University of the Sciences (USciences) (L, 73-84).
Â
On Thursday, December 15, Chestnut Hill College (7-5, 3-3) junior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) scored a game-high 18 points off the bench to lead the Griffins to a 102-67 victory over CACC foe, Wilmington University. The historical performance marked Chestnut Hill College's highest single-game point total (W, 100-98 (OT) vs. Glenville State University on 11/19/15) and their largest margin of victory since an 83-44 triumph (39 points) over Post University on January 6, 2016. For the visiting Wildcats, it was their second highest points-allowed total since suffering a 105-69 loss to Bloomsburg University on November 16, 2013.
Â
Tumasz led the offensive outburst with 18 points on 6-of-11 (.545) shooting from downtown. Wildgoose and Trossi both offered solid supporting efforts; the former recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and nine rebounds while the latter finished the affair with 14 points, four rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
Â
On Saturday, November 17, Trossi registered the first triple-double in Chestnut Hill College basketball history, as well as her first career triple-double (17 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists), to propel the Griffins to a 94-92 overtime victory over non-conference foe Kutztown University.
In a see-saw battle with Kutztown University, Chestnut Hill College needed all it got from Trossi, who fueled the Griffins to victory with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. Wildgoose helped her shoulder the load in overtime, as the sophomore post outscored the Bears 8-2 over the opening 2:13, staking the Scarlet and Gold a five-point, 85-80 advantage midway through the extra frame (2:47). Although the deficit dwindled to one point, 87-86, following a Kutztown University layup at 1:20, the Griffins did not relinquish the lead, hitting seven of their final eight free throws to clinch the 94-92 victory.
Â
Trossi's historic triple-double came on 5-of-13 (.385) shooting from the floor and a 7-of-13 (.538) performance from the free throw line. Wildgoose shot 75.0% (12-of-16) from the floor en route to her 27 points. She also grabbed a dozen (12) rebounds for her second straight double-double performance.
Â
On Monday, December 19, Chestnut Hill College hoped to match the University of the Sciences (USciences) impressive perimeter shooting performance (14-of-30, .467 3PT%) with their up-tempo offense, but in the end the visitor’s long range game overcame both the Griffins’ pace and superior rebounding effort (40-28) for an 84-73 CACC win. The Scarlet and Gold played catch-up after losing the lead, 21-18, and the momentum in a lop-sided second quarter (7-19) that left the Devils with a 37-28 halftime advantage. Five Griffins finished in doubles figures; a third consecutive double-double (17 points and 10 rebounds) from Wildgoose headlined the pride.
Â
Behind Wildgoose’s double-double, Trossi added three rebounds and five assists to her dozen (12) points. Wildgoose was efficient, hitting 7-of-10 (.700) from the floor and 3-of-6 (.500) at the free throw line. She has recorded 10 double-doubles in her collegiate career with the recent three-game streak standing as her longest such feat.
