McDonough Starts New Year as CACC Defensive Player of the Week, Trossi Garners Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. - (1/9/2017) – Helping Chestnut Hill College to recent Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins over Post University, 108-80 on January 4, and at Nyack College, 78-66 on January 7, senior guard Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and her backcourt partner sophomore Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) were recognized on the league’s weekly women’s basketball report. With six steals and a block, McDonough was the second Griffin to be named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week this year (Caity Kuhnen, 11/15/16). Meanwhile, Trossi earned her third CACC Weekly Honor Roll mention of the season with 18.0 points-per-game (PPG), 6.0 rebounds-per-game (RPG), six assists, and four steals.

Reaching 100 points or more for the second time this season and at least 90 points for the third time in four contests, Chestnut Hill College showcased their high-paced offense in a 108-80 CACC triumph over Post University on Wednesday (January 4) evening. Six Griffins finished in double figures with 19 points apiece from Trossi and senior forward Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) headlining the effort. Trossi supported her 19 points with five rebounds, six assists, and two steals, while McDonough paired her 11 points with two rebounds, three assists, a block, and three steals.

Three days later, Chestnut Hill College won their fourth game in five contests, placing five players in double figures, and overwhelming Nyack College in the even quarters on Saturday (January 7) for a 78-66 CACC win. Trossi scored all of her, team-high, 16 points in the second half and helped put the Griffins at the free throw line 40 (31-of-40, .775) times with her 8-of-12 (.750) effort at the charity stripe. She added seven rebounds and two steals to her fifth consecutive double digit scoring effort. McDonough finished the affair with three points, three rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s basketball team looks to continue their winning ways on Tuesday, January 10, when they visit CACC North-leading Caldwell University for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
