Eberhard Earns CACC Weekly Honor Roll Mention

New Haven, Conn. – (3/7/2017) – Sophomore pitcher Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.)  earned recognition on the second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll after posting a 1.11 earned-run-average (ERA) in 6.1 innings pitched with three strikeouts during the season-opening series against Webber International University on March 5.

Webber International University (5-3) swept the doubleheader with wins of 4-1 and 3-2. The Griffins surrendered a dozen hits in the opener, losing ground after scoring the game's initial tally on a single from senior shortstop Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.). She also had a hit in the second game, but the Warriors won the pitchers' duel as well, coming from behind with a pair of ninth-inning tallies.

A two-out walk to sophomore left fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) set the table for Chestnut Hill College (0-2) to score the first run of the afternoon as she stole second base before crossing the plate on an Apodaca single, 1-0. Webber International University evened the score, 1-1, with a third-inning lead-off single and a two out double bringing their first run across. The Warriors added an additional run in their next at-bat, 2-1, with three hits and pushed their advantage to three runs, 4-1, with a pair of eighth-inning tallies.

Sophomore catcher Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) record the other Chestnut Hill College hit (1-for-3) while senior Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif.) took the loss (0-1); allowing four runs on 12 hits and two walks. She struck out five in six innings of work

The Warriors scored first in the second game, 1-0, using a three-hit fourth-inning. The Scarlet and Gold evened the affair, 1-1, in the sixth inning thanks to a lead-off single from junior second baseman Jaden Perrillo (Shickshinny, Pa.), a Magee bunt-single, a double steal, and a pair of two-out walks to sophomore first baseman Kaya Swanek (Pittston, Pa.) and sophomore designated player Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.). Chestnut Hill College took advantage of a Warrior error grab a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning, but the Griffins returned the favor in the bottom of the frame, surrendering two runs in a 3-2 defeat.

Perrillo had two (2-fo-3) of the Griffins seven hits. Eberhard took the loss (0-1), despite allowing only one earned run on five hits and a walk. She struck out three in 6.1 innings of work.

The Chestnut Hill College softball team returns to action on Tuesday, March 7, in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader at Southeastern University.
