Craig Collects CACC Weekly Honor Roll Rewards for Fantastic Start

New Haven, Conn. - (3/8/2017) – Junior shortstop Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) completed one of the most impressive spring trips in Chestnut Hill College history with a .524/.688/.667 (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage) slash line that produced nine runs and knocked in another 12 over the Griffins’ final seven games of the journey. The Scarlet and Gold went 3-4 over that span, while Craig earned a spot on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll by reaching base in 15 of 16 consecutive at-bats.

The week began with a 10-9 win over Florida Memorial University on Monday, March 6. And continued with losses at Barry University, 10-7 on Tuesday, March 7, and Lynn University, 5-4 on Wednesday, March 8, before rounding out with a neutral-site 5-4 loss to Northwood University, on Friday, March 10, and a 2-1 series versus West Virginia Wesleyan College. The Griffins lost to the Bobcats, 13-6, in their second game on Friday, before sweeping Saturday’s doubleheader with wins of 10-2 and 5-3.

Craig was 3-for-4 in the high-scoring victory against Florida Memorial, scoring three times and knocking in two runs with two doubles, a walk, and three stolen bases. He then went 3-for-3 in the loss to at Barry University, having a hand in all seven of the Griffins’ runs against the Buccaneers with two runs and five runs-batted-in (RBI). Craig also stole a fourth base in that game. He walked four times before singling in the eighth inning of the Griffins’ first game on Friday; in the second game, he went hitless (0-for-3) for the only time on the trip, but still walked twice and knocked in a run. Saturday’s doubleheader sweep saw Craig go 2-for-7 with two runs, four RBI, two walks, and two stolen bases.

The Chestnut Hill College hopes to resume play on Friday, March 17, when they are scheduled to open Latshaw-McCarthy Field with a 2:00 p.m. CACC doubleheader against Felician University.
