Dambach and Rees Earn ECC Player and Rookie of the Week Awards

Central Islip, N.Y. – (4/4/2017) – Following a 1-1 week in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, the Chestnut Hill College men’s lacrosse team nearly swept the weekly awards, with senior attack Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.) and freshman midfielder Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) earning Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week accolades respectively. The Griffins opened the week falling in overtime to No. 12 Mercy College, 8-7, before rebounding with a 19-6 road triumph over University of the District of Columbia (UDC), on April 1.

Victory Field #1 served as the setting for a pivotal ECC contest on Wednesday, March 29, as Chestnut Hill College (4-3, 3-1) hosted #12 Mercy College in an early afternoon league contest. The Griffins recovered from a 7-5 third-quarter deficit to force overtime with unassisted scores from Dambach and Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia). But the extra frame only lasted 19 seconds (3:41) as freshman midfielder Anthony DeVito (Rocky Point, N.Y.) converted the period's only shot and ended the contest in the Mavericks' favor, 8-7.

On Saturday, April 1, UDC scored the first two goals of the ECC contest, but the Firebirds flame was quickly extinguished as Chestnut Hill College closed the first quarter with a 6-1 run that propelled them to an eventual 19-6 triumph. Fisher scored a team-high four goals and added an assist for his third five-point game of the season. He was complimented by Dambach, who totaled seven points with three goals and four assists.

Dambach, earning his second POTW honor on the year, collected nine points during the week, scoring two goals in the loss to Mercy College before exploding for three goals and four assists in the victory over the Firebirds. He ranks first on the team with 26 points (12G-14A), ranking fifth in the ECC in assists. Rees makes his initial appearance on the weekly conference award slate following a four-goal week. Tallying one goal in the loss to the Mavericks, Rees registered three goals and one ground ball in the victory over UDC.

The Chestnut Hill College men's continues ECC play on Saturday, April 8, when they host Roberts Wesleyan College in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
