Leckonby Lures CACC Honor Roll Recognition
New Haven, Conn. – (4/4/2017) – Junior midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) totaled seven points (five goals and two assists), three ground balls, and eight draw controls in a 1-1 showing against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rivals, Georgian Court University (L, 7-17 on March 29) and Felician University (W, 24-2 on April 1). For her efforts, she was recognized on the league’s weekly Honor Roll.
Chestnut Hill College (2-7, 2-1) visited Georgian Court University (4-6, 3-0) for Wednesday, March 29, afternoon’s affair. The Lions defended their home field to the tune of a 17-7 final, while the Griffin effort was highlighted by a pair of three-goal efforts from senior midfielder Jacklyn O’Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) and junior attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.); the latter added six draw controls to her scoring. Leckonby offered the first goal of the second half in addition to a ground ball and two draw controls.
Collecting goals from 11 different players, Chestnut Hill College raced past Felician University, 24-2, in Saturday, April 1, afternoon’s CACC competition. Senior midfielder Rachel Perry (Gilbertsville, Pa.) and Leckonby led the Griffins' attack with four goals apiece. The latter also recorded two assists, two ground balls, and six ground balls.
The Griffins roared out of the gates, scoring seven goals in the opening 8:10 for a commanding 7-0 advantage. Perry and Leckonby paced the Griffins during the run, each collecting a pair of goals, with Perry adding one assist. The Scarlet and Gold continued their offensive onslaught, collecting 10 more goals in the half, holding a 17-0 edge going into the halftime break. The second half saw the Griffins up their advantage to 19 at the 23:04 mark when senior midfielder Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) scored her second goal of the contest, 19-0. Felician University (0-5, 0-3) got on the board at the 19:02 mark of the second half, but the hosts outscored the visitors 5-1 over the remainder of the game - including the first career goals for freshman attack Dai Pearson (Pottstown, Pa.) and midfielder Mary Kroppe (Wyomissing, Pa.) – to secure the 24-2 victory.
Chestnut Hill College returns to action on Tuesday, April 4, when they visit CACC foe Wilmington University for a 4 p.m. contest.
