Magee Returns to CACC Softball Weekly Report as Honor Roll Mention
New Haven, Conn. – (4/19/2017) – For a second straight week, sophomore right fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) was recognized on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), this time garnering a spot on the league’s weekly Honor Roll. Magee was 8-for-18 (.444) with four runs and three runs-batted-in (RBI). She was a combined 4-for-8 in the CACC doubleheader versus Post University, hitting a two-run home run in the third inning of game one and knocking in a run in game two with a sixth-inning, two-out single to third base. Magee was named the CACC Player of the Week on Monday, April 10, after recording a .481 (13-for-27)/.516/1.000 (BA/OBP/SLG) slash line with two doubles, four home runs, 10 RBI, 10 runs, two walks, and one stolen base.
On Wednesday, April 12, Chestnut Hill College capitalized on an afternoon of strong pitching, collecting two valuable CACC wins, 1-0 and 2-1, at Philadelphia University. Senior Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif.) held the Lady Rams to four hits while a fourth-inning single from sophomore catcher Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) knocked in the only run needed in the opener. Sophomore Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) got some help from Riotte too; she won the nightcap thanks Riotte's fourth-inning, lead-off home run and a fifth-inning sacrifice fly from sophomore third baseman Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.). Magee was 3-for-7 in the twin bill, scoring once in each contest.
Against Post University, Magee was a prime contributor the Griffin effort. Unfortunately, the Eagles won the tightly contested game one, 5-4, before taking the nightcap, 13-4. Chestnut Hill College responded to a pair of first-inning runs from Post University, 2-0, with Magee blasting a one-out, two-run home run to right center field to knot the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the frame.
The Eagles separated again with three runs in the top of the fifth inning, 5-2. The Scarlet and Gold answer with a pinch hit double from sophomore Kaya Swanek (Pittston, Pa.) cutting the deficit down to just one run, 5-4, in the bottom of the sixth inning. But that would be as close as the hosts would get, as sophomore pitcher Leslie Denis (Swansea, Mass.) (5-8) shut the door on a 7.0 inning, four-run performance by stranding three Griffins in the final frame.
On Saturday, April 15, the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) visited campus for a pair of contests. The Bears’ offered a pair of strong pitching performances in the twin bill, limiting Chestnut Hill College to just three hits between the two games, and earning a pair of 9-0 victories; the first in five innings and the second in six. Magee, freshman shortstop Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.), and sophomore designated player Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) were responsible for the Scarlet and Gold hits; Sauer broke up the no-hit bid in game two with a two-out single in the fourth inning.
After the holiday break, Chestnut Hill College returns to action on Tuesday, April 18, with a 2:30 p.m. CACC doubleheader versus Concordia College (NY).
