Charney Garners CACC Women’s Track Rookie of the Week Award, Waleski and Morris Earn Honor Roll Mentions
Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (4/13/2017) – Freshman Sydni Charney (Garfield, N.J.) finished 13th (21:53) in the 100-Meter Hurdles at Wednesday, April 12, night’s Gwynedd Mercy University Midweek Twilight Invitational to garner the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Track Rookie of the Week award. Meanwhile, sophomore Erica Waleski (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and freshman Aaron Morris (Philadelphia, Pa.) were recognized on the CACC Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Weekly Honor Roll for their parts in the Chestnut Hill College record-setting performances in the relays.
Showcasing their depth of athletes at the Gwynedd Mercy University Midweek Twilight Invitational, the Chestnut Hill College men’s and women’s track and field teams set school records in both of the 4x400-meter Relays and the 4x800-meter Relays; the latter efforts also took first place (Men: 8:17.11, Women: 10:27.19) as the Scarlet and Gold offered the top team in each. The Griffins also set school records in the women’s Javelin thanks to senior Morghan Green (Fountain Hill, Pa.) (13th, 28.05 meters), and the men’s Shot Put thanks to a 10.83 meter toss from sophomore Duncan Malone (Boston, Mass.). Green was joined in the Javelin by Charney, who placed 24th with a 21.03 meter throw.
The Griffins’ record in the women’s 4x400-Meter Relay (7th, 4:36.47) was the combined performance of Waleski, sophomore Kelly Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa.), sophomore Ayanna Dickey (Baltimore, Md.), and Turner. The record-setting, first place run in the 4x800-meter Relay included Waleski, Bradley, sophomore Raquel Lopez (East Meadow, N.Y.), and sophomore Makenzie Hooven (Philadelphia, Pa.). Chestnut Hill College also competed in the 4x100-meter Relay, finishing eighth (57.28).
Chestnut Hill College’s 4x400-Meter Relay men’s record came on the feet of Inniss, freshman Jonathan Boc (Jersey City, N.J.), sophomore Raevon Floyd-Bennett (Union City, N.J.), and junior Ediegeo Vanterpool II (Clementon, N.J.). The team finished second with a time of 3:29.28. The Griffins’ also offered the 13th place (3:58.50) finisher. Freshmen Jake DiCello (Pottsville, Pa.) and Morris joined Floyd-Bennett and Vanterpool in the record-setting, first place (8:17.11) finish in the 4x800-meter Relay. The Scarlet and Gold also ran to a fourth place (47.45) finish in the 4x100-meter Relay.
Elsewhere in the men’s track events, Chestnut Hill College offered three top-10 finishes as freshman Zigmund Fisher (Chadds Ford, Pa.) came in third (4:14.97) in the 1,500-meter, Inniss came in sixth (11.61) in the 100-meter, and Morris came in 10th (2:02.80) in the 800-meter. Freshmen Alex Lynch (Manchester, N.J.) and Kevin Martinez (Lindenwold, N.J.) were the Griffins’ respective leaders in the 5,000-meter (13th, 16:48.61) and the 200-meter (42nd, 25.67).
Chestnut Hill College men’s and women’s track and field teams compete again next weekend, starting on Friday, April 21, when they partake in the Widener University Invitational.
