Holloway Earns CACC Honor Roll Recognition with Three-Win Week

Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/24/2017) – During last week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition versus Concordia College (NY) (4/18), at Wilmington University (4/20), and versus the University of the Sciences (USciences) (4/23), senior Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif.) went 3-0 in five appearances to earn a spot on the league’s weekly Honor Roll. Holloway’s last victory of the week was her ninth (9-11) of the season, establishing herself as the program’s all-time leader for wins in a single season.

The final of both of Tuesday’s CACC games versus Concordia College (NY) was 8-0 as Chestnut Hill College won the opener of the doubleheader in six innings, before dropping the second game to the Clippers in five frames. Sophomore second baseman Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) all but clinched the first game for Holloway with her first collegiate home run coming in grand-slam fashion. Sophomore left fielder Marissa Maioran (Rockaway, N.J.) led the Griffins in game two with a pair of hits (2-for-2). Holloway allowed three hits and struck out six in the complete game effort.

Chestnut Hill College scored all the runs it needed to defeat Wilmington University 6-5 in the first game of Thursday’s CACC doubleheader during a big second inning that included a three-run double from junior designated player Jessica Pulis (Baldwin, N.Y.). With the game on the wire, the Scarlet and Gold went to sophomore Jessica Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) for the save (2). Unfortunately, the Griffins could not duplicate the result in game two as a vengeful Wildcat crew outscored Chestnut Hill College 10-2 in five innings. Holloway held on as long as she could, limiting the Wildcats to three hits through the first six inning of the first affair. She struck out five runs in 6.2 innings of work.

Riding the right arm of Holloway, Chestnut Hill College used two big innings to secure a 7-0 victory over USciences in the opener of Sunday’s doubleheader. Senior shortstop Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.) (2-for-4) knocked in three runs in the contest. In the nightcap, a four-run fifth inning propelled the Griffins to a 5-3 victory. Maioran knocked in two runs that inning with a single to left field while sophomore Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned her second win (2-7) of the season, holding the Devils to three runs on seven hits and a walk. Holloway set the program’s all-time record for wins in a season with her ninth (9-11) of the year. She allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out four.

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Thursday, April 20, with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader at Wilmington University.
