Play at Molloy College Draws ECC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week Awards for Dooley and McDermott

Central Islip, N.Y. – (5/1/2017) – With a 16-7 East Coast Conference (ECC) victory over Molloy College on Saturday, April 29, Chestnut Hill College earned a spot in the league’s championship tournament for the first time since the 2014 season. For their parts in the Griffins’ season finale triumph over the Lions, senior Andrew Dooley (Monroe Township, N.J.) and Senior goalkeeper Thomas McDermott (Ridley, Pa.) were respective selected at the ECC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. For the Scarlet and Gold net minder, it is his fourth such recognition of the season.

Chestnut Hill College (8-4, 6-2) dominated the second half of play against Molloy College (9-5, 4-4) on Saturday, April 29, after acquiring an 8-4 lead in the first half. The Griffins opened the scoring with two unassisted Dooley goals (13:13 and 11:50). The Lions evened the contest, 2-2, by the nine-minute mark (9:00) of the first quarter. freshman midfielder Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) briefly gave the Griffins a 3-2 lead at 5:28 and after a trade of tallies the contest went to the second frame with the Scarlet and Gold up 4-3. The separation came in the second frame, where Dooley (5-3 at 14:12), Rees (6-3 at 11:27), junior midfielder Joshua Pope (Schnecksville, Pa.) (7-4 at 3:08), and senior attack Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) netted the goals necessary for an 8-4 halftime lead. After intermission it was all Scarlet and Gold as five third-quarter goals, 13-4, and a 3-3 fourth quarter accounted for the final nine goal deficit, 16-7. Fisher scored twice in the second half and Dooley three times.

Fisher and Rees report four goals apiece, complimenting Dooley's performance. Fisher added an assist and Rees a ground ball. Junior attack Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) fueled the Scarlet and Gold offense with a goal, three assists, and a ground ball. It was McDermott’s ninth game of double digits saves this season as he totaled 16 in the victory.

Chestnut Hill College will serve as the #3 seed in the upcoming ECC Men's Lacrosse Championship and therefore will travel to #2 Mercy College on Wednesday, May 3, for a 3:00 p.m. semifinal contest.
