Holloway Ends Season On CACC Softball Weekly Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. – (5/1/2017) – Senior Briannen Holloway (Corona, Calif.) made three appearances and two starts in a 1-3 week of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play for the Chestnut Hill College softball team. She went 1-1 with a dominating game-one effort in the Griffins’ 4-2 triumph over Bloomfield College on Friday, April 28; collecting her 10th win of the season by holding the Bears to two runs on four hits while striking out 10. As a result, Holloway was an Honor Roll mention on the most recent CACC Softball Weekly Report.

Serving as visitor on their home field, Chestnut Hill College hosted Bloomfield College for Friday’s CACC action. Holloway’s (10-11) first run support came in the third inning, where a lead-off walk to senior first baseman Jenna Long (North Wildwood, N.J.), a single through the right side sophomore right fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.), and a double to centerfield from senior shortstop Corie Apodaca (Ontario, Calif.). The other three were added in the sixth inning. There, a one-out single to second base from sophomore second baseman Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.), a double to left center from junior designated Jessica Pulis (Baldwin, N.Y.), a tough at-bat from Long, and a Magee double down the left field line that brought home two runs.

Bringing the 2017 regular season to a close, on Saturday, April 29, Chestnut Hill College hosted Felician University for a pair of CACC games and annual Senior Day festivities. Unfortunately, the Golden Falcons got the better of the Griffins with victories of 5-3 and 4-2. Sauer was 2-for-3 in the opener, but Chestnut Hill College scored three runs in the fifth inning on a Pulis grounder to second and a Magee single through the left side. Magee had two hits (2-for-4) in game two, but Pulis and senior centerfielder Ashley Sharp (Dresher, Pa.) respectively knocked in the Griffins’ runs with a third inning single through the right side and a fifth inning single to center field. Holloway worked the first 7.1 innings of game one. She took the loss (10-12) despite striking out five and holding the Golden Falcons to four earned runs on 12 hits. Holloway was also in the circle for Felician University’s last two outs of the twin bill, forcing a foul fly behind home plate before striking out the last Golden Falcon to bat.

Chestnut Hill College finishes the 2017 regular season with a 14-28 overall record and 12-14 standing in CACC play; both program-bests at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II level.
