Overtime Heroics Makes Magee A CACC Weekly Honor Roll Mention
New Haven, Conn. - (9/18/2017) – With 24 seconds (99:36) remaining in overtime, junior midfielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) secured Chestnut Hill College’s first win - 4-3 over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent, Dominican College - of the season by completing a serve from sophomore midfielder Geena DiRugeris (Woodbury, N.J.) at the far post. The game-winning tally was Magee’s second goal of the game; her first was the first of her collegiate career. As a result, she was recognized on the CACC Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll.
In the early the second half, Dominican College (0-5, 0-3) rattled off several shots in the Griffins’ end. As a result, junior forward Taylor Calero (New City, N.Y.) scored from the top left at 77:48, 2-1. Magee retaliated with a dribble to midfield and a successful 30-yard strike that brought the Scarlet and Gold even once again, 2-2 (81:24). As the match came down to the wire, senior Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) seemingly won it by collecting a loose ball and whipping it past the Charger goalkeeper at 82:05, 3-2. In desperation, the Chargers’ offensive pressure was relentless and caused the Griffins to foul in their own end with 89:58 left on the clock. Senior defender Ina Koeder (Schwaebisch Hall, Germany) capitalized on the opportunity, scoring a goal at the right post with less than a second remaining, 3-3 (89:59).
During the overtime, each team battled for control and exchanged a shot before Dominican College committed a foul in their backfield. On the restart, DiRugeris found Magee at the far post for the game-winner, 4-3 (99:36).
The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team continues their schedule at the Campus Field on Monday, September 18, when they host Shippensburg University in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
