Marchese Makes CACC Golf Weekly Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. - (9/26/2017) – Sophomore Tyler Marchese (Dunmore, Pa.) earned a spot on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Weekly Honor Roll for his play at the recently completed Charger Challenge (9/22-23) and Ursinus College Fall Invitational (9/26). Marchese led the Griffins after the first day of play at the Challenge and completed Dominican College’s two-day event tied for 21st with a total of 155 (79-76, +11) strokes. Two days later, on Tuesday, September 26, at Raven's Claw Golf Course, Marchese led the Griffins to a second place finish (2nd of 9, 316, +32) in the Ursinus College Fall Invitational with his third place score of 72 (+1).
Marchese was the only Griffin to break 80 during the first day of Dominican College’s Charger Challenge, but the freshman finished just strokes ahead of his teammates, who helped him to leave Chestnut Hill College sixth in a field of eight (6th of 8, 322, +34) teams. St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) was the only non-CACC team in the group, they initially held first place with a team score of 298 (+10) thanks to a round of 70 (-2) from Tom Holmes. The Griffins improved on their second day of play at Spook Rock Golf Course as a round of 74 (+2) from sophomore Taylor Mezzatesta (Forest Hill, Md.) and a round of 76 (+4) from Marchese elevated the Griffins to a fourth place (4th of 8, 322-312, 634, +58) finish. Host, Dominican College surpassed STAC for the tournament crown; the Chargers offered the top two finishers and three among the top six to complete the two-day event just nine strokes over par (302-283, 585, +9).
On Tuesday, Marchese was just a stroke off the mark, both in par (3rd, 72, +1) and the lead as freshman Shane Nocito (Philadelphia, Ps.) of Penn State Abington and senior Tyler Spielberger (Newport News, Pa.), of Wesley College, finished play at the Ursinus College Fall Invitational with even rounds of 71 (E). His effort led Chestnut Hill College for the second straight event and helped them to a second place finish (2nd of 9, 316, +32). Despite the efforts of Nocito and Spielberger, Penn State Abington and Wesley College did not win the tournament. The crown went to Cabrini College, who took just three strokes less (313, +29) than Chestnut Hill College to complete the 18 holes at Raven’s Claw Golf Course. Their top shooters were junior David Gall (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and freshman Timmy Brooks (Villanova, Pa.), who respectively placed fourth (73, +2) and fifth (75, +4) in the event.
The Chestnut Hill College golf team competes next at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament, which is being hosted by Wilmington University at Middletown, Delaware’s Back Creek Golf Club on Saturday, September 30, and Sunday, October 1.
