Covic Collects CACC Weekly Women’s Tennis Honor Roll Recognition with Play at ITA East Region Championships

New Haven, Conn. - (9/24/2017) – As the tournament’s #15 individual, Sophomore Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) fared better than her teammates, advancing to the third round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Championships and earning herself a spot on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Tennis Weekly Honor Roll. Covic challenged Queens College junior Reehan Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) to a 6-2, 6-3, end in the third round.

With the qualifying rounds executed on Friday, September 22, Saturday marked the first day of official draw play at this weekend’s ITA East Region Championships. Chestnut Hill College advanced both a men’s and women’s singles competitor through the first two rounds of the individual draw as sophomore Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) and Covic each scored a pair of victories. Covic first topped the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) sophomore Estefania Castrillon (Bogota, Columbia) 6-1, 6-1, and then took out Goldey-Beacom College sophomore Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) 6-4, 6-1, to align opposite Queens College junior Reehan Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) in the third round of singles play. In doubles, Covic teamed with junior Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) to challenge the Knights; senior Emy Alplund (Engelberg, Switzerland) to an 8-2 end. First day success aligned Covic and Gautier opposite Queens College counterparts in Sunday’s action at the ITA East Region Championships. Covic bowed out after a 6-2, 6-3, loss to Rashad.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s tennis team resumes their CACC schedule on Saturday, September 30, with a 12:00 p.m. match versus Caldwell University.
