Game-Winner Captures Casaletto A CACC Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll Mention

New Haven, Conn. - (10/3/2017) – On Saturday, September 30, senior midfielder Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) did what he does best – score game-winning-goals – as the Chestnut Hill College captain put a bow on the Griffins’ Senior Day celebration with the clincher in a 3-1
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Nyack College. He also recorded a goal in the Scarlet and Gold’s effort against Georgian Court University (L, 2-3) on Wednesday, September 27, to earn his first appearance on the CACC Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll this season.

In a hard-fought CACC contest, Chestnut Hill College (4-6, 3-3) scored first on a slashing header from senior forward Mike Buscemi (Rockville, Md.) (1-0 at 12:26), before falling behind Georgian Court University (6-2-2, 3-1-1) midway through the second half (2-1 at 65:16). The Lions added an insurance goal just past the 80-minute mark (3-1 at 80:13) that came in handy as Casaletto added to the drama of a 3-2 league final with his third goal of the season.

Casaletto headlined the Chestnut Hill College offense with five shots of his own. Buscemi, senior Zachary Gray (West Sussex, England), and freshman forward Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) each offered two shots, while several other Griffins offered an attempt in a narrow 18-15 shot deficit. Sophomore goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) made six saves in the loss (3-5).

Three days later, Casaletto collected a long serve from junior midfielder Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and beat a Nyack College defender for his fourth goal of the season. Casaletto was the second of two seniors to score in the affair, which served as Senior Day and a Red Card Cancer event; the other was Buscemi who won a ping-pong competition for the Griffins’ first goal at 15:05, 1-0.

Gray kept the Warrior defense busy with a team-high seven shots. Five others; a group including Buscemi, Casaletto, Marra, senior midfielder Vini Brito (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman midfielder Tom McHale (Blue Bell, Pa.), recorded at least two shots for the Scarlet and Gold. Maniscalco earned the win (4-5) with five saves.

The Chestnut Hill College men’s soccer team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, October 3 with a 3:30 p.m. contest at Holy Family University.
