Murphy and Peshkin Appear on CACC Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. - (10/12/2017) – One provided her first collegiate tally as the game-winner in a 3-2 triumph at Bloomfield College on Saturday, October 7, while the other earned her first collegiate win in the same contest. Both were recognized for their efforts as freshman midfielder Marisa Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore goalkeeper Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) garnered a spot on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll.
Despite a 16-0 first-half shot differential, Chestnut Hill College (2-9, 2-6) held Holy Family University (9-2, 6-1) scoreless until the 48th minute (48:18) of Wednesday’s CACC contest. Unfortunately after the first Tiger tally, a second came less than three minutes later (51:14), and a third just 38 seconds (89:22) before the final horn, 3-0. Junior midfielder Macailagh Smith (Red Bank, N.J.) accounted for both of the Griffins' shots, the first coming just before the 50-minute mark (49:59) and the second just after the 81-minute mark (81:12).
The efforts of Murphy and Peshkin came into play during the weekend contest at Bloomfield College (4-7, 2-6). There, Murphy scored Chestnut Hill College their second win of the season with her first collegiate goal, which came off the feed of senior defender Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) in the 68th minute (68:17). Freshman forward Gabby Fanfarillo (Glassboro, N.J.) (1-0 @ 27:54) – also the first of her collegiate career - and sophomore midfielder Geena DiRugeris (Woodbury, N.J.) (2-1 @ 37:44) gave the Griffins a 2-1 halftime advantage, while Peshkin earned her first win (1-4) of the season with a fourth straight double-digit save (11 saves) effort.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, October 14, with a 12:00 p.m. (noon) contest at Concordia College (NY).
