Neals, Lopez, and Fisher Figure into CACC Weekly Honors with Performance at Battle for the Buggy

New Haven, Conn. - (10/12/2017) – On Saturday, October 7, the Chestnut Hill College men’s and women’s cross country teams participated in Millersville University’s Battle for the Buggy. Both sides nearly came away victorious as both placed second in their respective fields (Men; 2nd of 4, 42 points | Women; 2nd of 5, 49 points) behind the trailblazing efforts of sophomores Zigmund Fisher (Chadds Ford, Pa.) (2nd, 27:48.00) and junior Raquel Lopez (East Meadow, N.Y.) (4th, 25:37.00). Freshman Taylor Neals (Bensalem, Pa.) was one of five Griffins to support Lopez with top-20 finishes, crossing the finish line just 13 second behind Lopez, completing the 6K in 25:50.00 for fifth place. For their efforts, Fisher and Lopez both garnered a spot on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Cross Country Weekly Honor Roll, while Neals was honored as the league’s female Rookie of the Week.

Franklin and Marshall College beat Chestnut Hill College in both runs (Men; 1st of 4, 34 points | Women; 1st of 5, 47 points), but provided the individual winner in neither as the unattached Michael Whalen (27:32.00) won the men’s 8K and Penn State – Berks (PSU Berks) junior Michelle Kiss (Lebanon, Pa.) (24:09.00) won the women’s 6K.

The Chestnut Hill College men’s and women’s cross country teams run next on Sunday, October 22, when they join their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rivals at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Delaware, for the league’s championship meet.
