Gautier Selected as Honor Roll Mention For CACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Month
New Haven, Conn. - (10/12/2017) – For his September play at the Villanova University Invitational and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Championships, sophomore Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) received an Honor Roll mention for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Month award. Gautier and junior Felix Andre (Berlin, Germany) battled opponents from St. Joseph’s University, Wagner College, and host, Villanova University for third place in the Wildcat tournament. A week later, Gautier reached the third round of the ITA East Regional Championships with individual victories over counterparts from Adelphi University and Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).
Chestnut Hill College joined rivals from La Salle University, Lafayette College, St. Joseph's University, Loyola University, Wagner College, the University of Delaware, and the hosting Wildcats in the seventh annual Villanova University Invitational. The duo of Andre and Gautier scored a 3-0 Round-One win over St. Joseph’s University, winning 7-5 as a team before separating for respective 6-0, 4-6, 10-6, and 9-8 (0) singles victories. Andre and Gautier improved to 2-0 with a 2-1 win over Wagner College. After losing the doubles match, 6-3, the Griffins both won marathon singles flights; Andre won 6-1, 4-6, 10-8, while Gautier pulled through 1-6, 6-2, 13-11. On the third day of competition, Andre and Gautier lost their doubles match, accepting third place in the tournament after the 6-0 final.
First day success at the ITA East Regional Championships aligned Gautier opposite Queens College senior Roman Laga (Baiersbronn, Germany), who ended his run with a 6-0, 6-1, win. Earlier in the weekend, Gautier endured Adelphi University sophomore David Robres de Vecia (Barcelona, Spain) by a 6-4, 6-2 final and defeated Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) senior Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) by a 6-1, 7-6 (3) end.
As the ITA East Regional Championship men's doubles draw's #16 team, Andre and Gautier scored wins of 8-1 and 8-6 before losing to the Knights' senior combination of Lucas Martinez (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Gabriel Mendez (Pachuca, Mexico) by an 8-6 final.
The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team continues their fall schedule on Friday, October 13, with another non-conference match against a CACC foe as they visit Jefferson University for a 2:30 p.m. engagement.
