Kehoe’s Crown at Devils Classic Draw CACC Player and Rookie of the Week Awards
New Haven, Conn. - (10/18/2017) – A sterling 70 (-1) - the top round played in two days of competition at Bluestone Country Club - earned freshman Jake Kehoe (Powell, Ohio) the first individual crown of his collegiate career at last weekend’s Devils Classic. Now, it has also earned him his first league recognition as Kehoe was recently named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Player and Rookie of the Week.
Kehoe's first place finish (77-70, 147, +5) helped Chestnut Hill College to a second place (2nd of 4, 318-306, 624, +56) finish in the two-day tournament, which was won by Assumption College (306-301, 607, +39). He improved seven strokes from his day-one round of 77 (+6) to provide the tournament low score of 147 (77-70, +5). It was fellow freshman Tyler Marchese (Dunmore, Pa.) who led Chestnut Hill College during the first day of play in the University of the Sciences' (USciences) fall event with his opening round of 75 (+4). Unfortunately, he shot an 84 (+13) on the second day to fall to a ninth place finish with his two-day score of 159 (75-84, +17). The Scarlet and Gold offered three other finishers among the top-20; sophomore Taylor Mezzatesta (Forest Hill, Md.) and freshman Jack LaRosa (Bristol, Pa.) placed consecutively in 12th(86-75, 161, +19) and 13th (80-82, 162, +20), respectively, while sophomore Shawn Mayer (Brick, N.J.) came in 19th (89-79, 168, +26). Freshman Dan Harrington (Pomfret Center, Conn.) was not far behind, in 21st with his final score of 172 (85-87, +30).
The Chestnut Hill College golf team will compete in one more fall match as they are scheduled to join Neumann University and host, Jefferson University next Sunday, October 21, for a tri-match at the ACE Club.
