Andre and Darias Monopolize CACC Men’s Tennis Monthly Awards

New Haven, Conn. - (11/1/2017) – For the second straight month the Chestnut Hill College men’s tennis team has provided the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Month as junior Felix Andre (Berlin, Germany) claimed October honors for his play in non-conference matches versus the University of the Sciences (USciences) and Jefferson University. Andre was not the Griffins only award winner as freshman Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) was recognized as the league’s Rookie of the Month. Both were 4-0 in October play versus the Devils and Rams.

Competing as a team for the first time this season, the Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team visited local CACC rival the USciences for an afternoon match on Wednesday, October 4. The Griffins scored an 8-1 triumph, emerging from doubles with a 2-1 advantage that only increased with six straight singles wins. The Griffins opened with the first two points of the match; Darias and sophomore Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) scored the initial Scarlet and Gold tally with their 8-0 win at number three doubles. Andre and sophomore Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) added to the lead with their 8-2 win at number two doubles. USciences (1-2) received return on their investment in the number one double match, 8-6, but the Devils were not as fortunate as individuals. Chestnut Hill College separated themselves with six consecutive singles wins. Gautier scored first with his 6-2, 6-1, win at number two singles. Senior Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and Andre were the next two Griffins to point, respectively doing so at number three (3-6, 6-4, 10-6) and number one (7-5, 6-3) singles. That left Gavin's 6-0, 6-0, triumph at number four singles as the clincher, which was followed by an 8-2 number six singles win from senior Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and a 6-2, 6-3, number five singles win from freshman David Villarreol (Cochabamba, Bolivia).

Chestnut Hill College completed their fall schedule on Friday, October 13, with a trip to Jefferson University’s Abraham J. Salaman Tennis Courts. The Griffins used a 3-0 doubles sweep and the first two singles scores to clinch the win over the Rams in an eventual 6-3 final. Andre, Darias, and Regalin were all 2-0 on the day, each winning their individual match after successful doubles rounds. The Griffins got a solid head start on Jefferson University (0-2) with consecutive doubles wins in the second, 8-3, third, 8-6, and first, 9-8 (7-5), flights. Andre and Gautier scored the first point of the match at number two doubles, they were followed by a number three doubles win by Darias and Gavin, and a number one doubles triumph by Regalin and Bocaletto.

In singles play, the match was clinched on individual victories by Andre (6-2, retired @ #1) and Regalin (6-0, 6-2 @ #5). The sixth Griffin point came from Darias at number four singles, 6-4, 7-6 (5), but it was preceded by Ram wins at number six, 6-2, 6-3, and number two, 6-3, 6-3, singles, and followed by a 6-0, 6-2 Ram win at number three singles.
