Kalala Collects Second CACC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll Recognition
New Haven, Conn. - (11/7/2017) – For the second time in her freshman season, outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was recognized for her play with a mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll. Kalala led Chestnut Hill College in points for both league matches at Jefferson University (11.5 points) and versus Post University (15.5). In addition to her 10 kills against the Lady Rams, she also recorded two digs and three blocks. She offered the same against the Eagles in excess of 14 kills.
Chestnut Hill College continued their CACC schedule with a Halloween match at Jefferson University (20-6, 15-1). The Lady Rams got revenge on the Griffins, taking the second match of the meeting of CACC South Division rivals by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-19) final. The home team used early leads to pace the Scarlet and Gold in each of the three sets. Junior setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) helped Kalala to her seventh double digit kills performance of the season with 19 assists. She also recorded a kills, six digs, and a block assist. Sophomore outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) was the other Griffin to record double digit digs, hustling to 10 in addition to six kills and an assist.
Chestnut Hill College rose to the occasion on Saturday, November 4, scoring their second win of the season against a CACC division leader with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 25-16, 25-22) triumph over Post University (15-12, 13-4). Kalala was the Griffins’ key offensive threat again with her match-high 14 kills while sophomore defensive specialist Kara Turtzer (La Habra Heights, Calif.) (11), Byxbee (15), and sophomore defensive specialist Janie Green (Hayes, Va.) (15) joined senior libero Peyton Reno (Wilmington, Del.) in double digit digs. Sophomore middle hitter Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) was in on seven (6 solo, 1 assist) of the Griffins’ nine team blocks.
The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, November 8, when they visit Georgian Court University for a 6:00 p.m. match.
