Marino Merits Second CSFL Offensive Player of the Week Award

West Point, N.Y. - (11/7/2017) – Sophomore quarterback Michael Marino (Blue Bell, Pa.) ended the 2017 season with 11 touchdown passes in three straight Chestnut Hill College victories, including a four touchdown effort in the Griffins recent 28-3 Senior Night victory over Franklin Pierce University. Marino totaled 227 yards on a 15-of-21 (.714) and rushed for another eight yards on three carries (2.7 yards/carry), for the effort he was recognized with his second CSFL Offensive Player of the Week award in the last three weeks.

Chestnut Hill College (4-3) coughed the ball up at their own 27-yard line on the very first play from scrimmage. But on the ensuing Franklin Pierce University (3-4) possession the Scarlet and Gold defense pushed the Ravens backwards on three straight runs before a punt gave the Griffins the ball back at their own 10-yard line. After a Chestnut Hill College punt Franklin Pierce University offered the first scoring drive of the game, finishing an eight-play drive with a 35-yard field goal, 3-0. The Griffins answered with a first-quarter score of their own, using Marino's arm and legs, and a pair of gashing rushes from junior running back Raevon Floyd-Bennett (Union City, N.J.) to reach the Ravens' two-yard line. That is when Marino found sophomore wide receiver Domoree Hill (Bethlehem, Pa.) in the far back corner of the end zone, 7-3. A scoreless second quarter left the spread there for halftime.

After the break, Chestnut Hill College stalled Franklin Pierce University's opening drive and countered it with a 13-play, 66-yard drive that concluded with a Marino touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Jonathan Barber (Brooklyn, N.Y.), 13-3. The Griffin defense intimidated the Ravens on their following possession and the offense punctuated the effort with a nine-play, 90-yard drive that end with 47-yard touchdown pass to Hill and a two-point conversion attempt that was hauled in by sophomore wide receiver Tyler Clayton (Sewell, N.J.), 21-3. For good measure, the Scarlet and Gold scored once more. The last Marino touchdown pass went to Clayton on a 19-yard connection in the southwest end zone, 28-3.

Chestnut Hill College finished their third season in the CSFL with a 4-3 record.
