Tumasz Double-Double Draws CACC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll Mention

New Haven, Conn. - (11/20/2017) – Senior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) posted a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds in Chestnut Hill College’s 88-79 loss at Kutztown University on Saturday, November 15, to earn an Honorable Mention on the recently released Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Report. Tumasz shot 8-of-15 (.533) from the field against the Golden Bears, including five (5-of-9, .556) three-point baskets. She also hit 3-of-4 (.750) at the free throw line, while recording six assists and four steals.

The first quarter opened up with both teams trying to get in their rhythm. Chestnut Hill College (2-1) emerged for a 9-6 (2:12) edge, before a minute and a half of scoreless basketball ended with Tumasz stealing the ball and drawing a foul with 55 seconds (0:55) remaining in the quarter. She made both to give the Griffins an 11-6 advantage. Unfortunately, Kutztown University (2-1) was able to get off a shot with three seconds (0:03) remaining to return the first-quarter spread to three points, 11-8. The Griffins lost their narrow advantage early in the second quarter as a 7-0 Golden Bear run pushed the home team ahead 15-11. Chestnut Hill College retrieved the lead at 22-21 (3:50), but once again Kutztown University finished strong for a 35-26 halftime lead.

The Golden Bear advantage grew to as many as 16 points, 48-32 (7:01), at the start of the third quarter, forcing the Griffins to rely on their perimeter game. A Tumasz three pointer at 1:31 reduced Kutztown University’s lead to 10 points, 61-51, spurring a 6-0 Chestnut Hill College run that left the Golden Bear lead in single digits, 62-56, heading to the final frame. There, the Golden Bears were able to put the game on ice, reestablishing their double digit advantage by 9:22, 68-58, and eventually holding off the Griffin final rally in an 88-79 final.

Chestnut Hill College continues their non-conference schedule on Wednesday, November 22, in a 4:00 p.m. contest at East Stroudsburg University.
