Sebold Honored as CACC Rookie of the Week, Wildgoose Appears On Fourth Straight Report
New Haven, Conn. - (12/18/2017) – Freshman guard Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) averaged 11.0 points-per-game (PPG) while totaling a rebound, six assists, and two steals in non-conference contests versus Mercy College and the University of New Haven (UNH) to garner the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week Award. Meanwhile, her teammate, junior forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) appeared on the CACC Weekly Report for a fourth straight week with her third Honor Roll (11/27, 12/11, 12/18) recognition of the year; she was also named the CACC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week on December 4. This is Sebold’s second appearance on the report as she garnered an Honor Roll spot for the November 27 report.
Chestnut Hill College (6-6, 2-1) escaped a close one on Tuesday, December 12, using a dominate 16-point, 31-15, first quarter edge as just enough leeway to claim an 81-76 victory over Mercy College. Wildgoose led the Scarlet and Gold effort in the opening frame with 11 points and finished the evening with a team-high, 17 points on 4-of-9 (.444) shooting and a perfect 9-of-9 (1.000) performance at the free throw line. In addition to her scoring, Wildgoose provided seven rebounds, two assist, and two steals. Three other Griffins finished in double figures, including Sebold who totaled a season-high, 15 points in her first collegiate start. Sebold also recorded six assists and two steals in the win.
The Griffins brought a close to their non-conference schedule the following day, on Wednesday, December 13, with a trip to the University of New Haven. Poor shooting (12-of-47, .255) and a 49-27 UNH rebounding advantage, gave the Griffins an uphill battle in an eventual 76-53 final. Wildgoose was the lead Griffin, scoring all 12 (12-of-12, 1.000) of her free throw attempts in an 18-point performance that included seven rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Sebold recorded seven points and a rebound in the loss.
Chestnut Hill College resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Wednesday, December 19, when they host Holy Family University in a 5:00 p.m. contest.
